Summary: This study investigates the effect of auricular acupressure on constipation and health-related quality of life in older people living in a residential care home. The results show that auricular acupressure can reduce the severity of constipation symptoms and improve the quality of life in older adults. This non-pharmacological practice can be used by nurses as a cost-effective, safe, acceptable, and non-invasive nursing care for older people with constipation in various settings.

Summary: The question of whether COVID-19 vaccination should be postponed until complete remission in patients with uveitis, a preexisting immune-related condition, was investigated in a clinical trial. The trial found that early vaccination in patients with inactive uveitis may result in a higher incidence of self-reported symptomatic uveitis worsening, but no adverse effects were observed in disease and visual prognosis at 3 months.

Summary: This study compared the outcomes of early and deferred COVID-19 vaccination in patients with uveitis. It found that early vaccination was associated with a higher incidence of symptomatic uveitis worsening, but there were no adverse effects on disease and visual prognosis at 3 months. These findings are valuable for guiding the timing of non-mRNA COVID-19 vaccination in this vulnerable population.

Summary: The study aimed to evaluate the development of new mental health diagnoses up to 6 months following COVID-19 hospitalization in a large national sample. Among the patients hospitalized for COVID-19, 8% developed new mental health diagnoses, with the most common being depressive, anxiety, and adjustment disorders. Younger and rural patients were more likely to develop new diagnoses, while women and those with more comorbidities were less likely.

Summary: The effectiveness of nirmatrelvir-ritonavir and molnupiravir in reducing the risk of hospitalization and death in COVID-19 patients was examined. The study found that nirmatrelvir-ritonavir significantly reduced the 30-day risk of hospitalization and death, while molnupiravir reduced the risk of death at 30 days but not hospitalization. Both antiviral medications showed positive effects in reducing mortality within 180 days.

Summary: Current theoretical models in health services research and evaluation do not adequately address care coordination and its impacts on healthcare use, quality, and outcomes. This article proposes a new integrated theoretical model of healthcare and care coordination, building upon existing models like the Andersen individual behavioral model (IBM) and the Donabedian health system and quality model (HSQM), as well as recent practice-based evidence. This model can guide future research to better understand the variation in care coordination services and its contribution to improving mental health in real-world settings.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the impact of COVID-19 infection on suicide attempts and other forms of self-directed violence. The results showed that COVID-19 patients had higher incidence and risk of suicide attempts and other forms of self-directed violence compared to uninfected individuals, and this risk persisted for at least one year after infection. Therefore, it is recommended to conduct suicide risk screening for individuals infected with SARS-COV-2 to identify opportunities for preventing self-harm.

Summary: Nearly 94% of breast cancer survivors experience symptoms or side effects during or after endocrine therapy, and acupuncture offers a comprehensive solution to address these issues. However, medically underserved breast cancer survivors often lack access to acupuncture. To promote equal access and evidence-based treatment, a randomized controlled trial is being conducted to investigate the effectiveness of acupuncture for symptom management among this population.
