Summary: Dietary restriction (DR) is an effective intervention for prolonging longevity in many organisms, but the molecular mechanisms by which DR influences aging and immunity are not fully understood. Through studying Caenorhabditis elegans, researchers discovered that the F-box gene fbxc-58 mediates the beneficial effects of DR on extending the health span of the worm and preventing mitochondrial deterioration during aging.

Summary: It is well established that lifestyle and dietary habits have a significant impact on life span, aging rate, and age-related diseases. Dietary restriction and healthy dietary patterns have been linked to increased survival and longevity, with the ability to modify oxidative stress levels. However, the debate regarding the role of dietary restriction as a golden standard for prolonging life span and ameliorating aging effects continues.

Summary: Cremastra appendiculata polysaccharide (CAP) has potential anti-aging and stress resistance effects. CAP primarily comprises mannose and glucose and exhibits antioxidant activity in vitro. In vivo, CAP prolongs the lifespan of Caenorhabditis elegans in a concentration-dependent manner and enhances antioxidant enzyme activity and stress resistance.

Summary: Two novel antioxidant peptides, D2-G1S-1 and G2-G1S-2, identified from Arca subcrenata exhibited potent antioxidant activities, extending the mean lifespan of Caenorhabditis elegans and improving age-associated physiological functions. These peptides could potentially be developed as cosmetics additives.

Summary: This study used Caenorhabditis elegans as a model organism to investigate the toxic effects and mechanisms of acrolein (ACR) exposure. The results showed that ACR exposure shortened the lifespan of C. elegans, reduced reproductive capacity and locomotive behavior, and increased oxidative stress levels. ACR also affected the expression of antioxidant-related genes. The findings suggest that ACR exposure induces aging and oxidative stress in C. elegans, activating the DAF-16/FOXO pathway.

Summary: This study found that dietary folic acid supplementation during pregnancy can improve high-fat diet-induced intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR) by alleviating placental inflammation and oxidative stress, which may be associated with the regulation of SIRT1 and its mediated NF-κB and Nrf2 signaling pathways.

Summary: The transcription factor SKN-1/NRF2 can sense and respond to changes in metabolic state. Knockdown of the amidohydrolase T12A2.1/amdh-1 activates a unique subset of SKN-1 regulated genes, independent of P38-MAPK signaling components. Histidine catabolism genes are required for this activation, possibly through accumulation of a specific catabolite. Activating SKN-1 results in increased oxidative stress resistance but decreased survival to heat stress.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of cinnamaldehyde in the presence of lactic acid on oxidative stress in Caenorhabditis elegans. It was found that cinnamaldehyde exhibited good antioxidant ability, and the presence of lactic acid could enhance its antioxidant activities. In addition, lactic acid was able to change the metabolic profile of cinnamaldehyde in C. elegans.

Summary: Restricting dietary thiols, including GSH and NAC, can extend lifespan and increase proteotoxic stress resistance in organisms. Excessive intake of dietary antioxidants like GSH may accelerate aging, and healthy individuals are better off relying on intrinsic GSH biosynthesis to promote cellular redox balance.

Summary: Natural antioxidants have become a significant topic in anti-aging research, with the nematode Caenorhabditis elegans serving as a reliable in vivo model for studying their effects. By comparing the oxidative stress and healthspan improvement induced by natural antioxidants in humans and C. elegans, the potential and limitations of this screening model in preclinical studies can be understood.

Summary: This study found that maternal exposure to PS-MPs can result in the transgenerational neurotoxicity in C. elegans, with oxidative stress playing a key role in this process. Furthermore, the upregulation of oxidative stress-related genes across generations may be involved in regulating neurotoxicity in C. elegans.
