Summary: This study investigated the cytotoxicity and genotoxicity of chloroform on plant cells using the Vicia faba bioassay. The results showed that exposure to chloroform led to a decrease in mitotic index, an increase in micronucleus frequency, and various chromosomal aberrations. Additionally, chloroform exposure induced membrane lipid peroxidation damage. These findings suggest that chloroform can cause oxidative stress, cytotoxicity, and genotoxicity in plant cells.

Summary: This study investigates the effects of light crude oil contamination on Vicia faba seeds. The results show that even at low concentrations, crude oil has toxic effects on the growth characteristics of Vicia faba, reducing seed germination and root length. Cellular observations indicate an increase in mitotic index, chromosome aberrations, and micronucleus formation with crude oil contamination.

Summary: This study evaluated the cytogenotoxicity of heavy metal contamination in a polluted urban wetland using a battery of cytogenotoxic assays. Different exposure conditions led to varying genotoxic effects of the heavy metal mixture on frog erythrocytes, with the Allium cepa bioassay showing lower sensitivity to heavy metals.

Summary: The study showed that exposure to poly styrene microplastics (PS-MPs) can lead to increased apoptosis and cell death, higher micronucleus rate, and reduced mitotic index in V. faba root cells. Additionally, it causes significant oxidative stress by altering the expression of antioxidant enzymes and genes related to cell cycle and DNA repair.

Summary: The article assessed the suitability of Vicia faba in the micronucleus test for evaluating the toxicity of wastewater containing diclofenac and sulfamethoxazole. It also examined the activity of antioxidant enzymes in plant leaves. The study found genotoxic and cytotoxic effects in the wastewater, but no mutagenic effects. The Vicia faba assay offers a simple and rapid method for assessing genotoxicity.

Summary: This study investigated the potential effects of different levels of microplastics (MPs) on soil, plants, and microbial activity through a pot experiment. The study found that MPs contamination had significant impacts on soil and plant properties, but these effects were mitigated by the addition of biochar (BC). The microbial community was also significantly affected by MPs and BC.

Summary: This study investigated the proteomic profile of developing faba bean seeds and found that proteins related to cell growth, division, and metabolism were most abundant in early growth stages, while seed storage proteins began to accumulate from 45 days after pollination. The relative abundance of seed proteins showed distinct temporal accumulation trends among protein classes.

Summary: This study investigated the phytotoxicity of gold nanoclusters (AuNCs) on broad beans and found that AuNCs exhibited toxicity to the seedlings, with a potential risk to the environment at a concentration of 20 mg/L. Additionally, the uptake and transport of gold nanomaterials were influenced by particle size and competition on the root surface.

Summary: This study assessed the genotoxicity, mutagenicity, and cytotoxicity of diclofenac, sulfamethoxazole, and their binary mixture in the environment. The results showed that even at low concentrations, pharmaceutical contamination can have adverse effects on ecosystems. Therefore, monitoring the presence of pharmaceutical residues is crucial to minimize their impact.

Summary: Magnesium oxyhydroxide nanoparticles were synthesized and their toxic effects were evaluated using Vicia faba L. The nanoparticles were found to be small in size, with a wide band gap and Urbach energy. Exposure to these nanoparticles resulted in a decrease in mitotic index and an increase in micronucleus formation in Vicia faba L. root tip cells.

Summary: This study investigated the resistance of broad bean plants to zinc stress and the consequent changes in their physiological and biochemical metabolism. The effects of different zinc concentrations on aphid progeny and the expression of carbohydrate and related genes were also analyzed. The results showed that zinc had various effects on broad beans and aphids, which can contribute to the understanding of the impact of soil heavy metal pollution and the potential use of broad beans for pollution remediation.
