Summary: Pillared interlayered clays (PILCs) with zirconium oxide pillars were prepared from a montmorillonite raw clay. The pillaring technique significantly increased the specific surface area and developed micro and mesoporosity. The zirconium oxide PILCs exhibited high selectivity in the separation of hexane isomers.

Summary: In this study, Kaolinite/illite (KUb) and sepiolite (SEP) clays were used to investigate the adsorption removal of Cr(III) from aqueous solutions. The results showed that SEP had a higher adsorption capacity and efficiency than KUb, and the removal capacity of both clays was higher at higher pHi. Additionally, pH, adsorption time, and initial concentration of Cr(III) also affected the removal capacity and efficiency.

Summary: New magnetic bentonite-based adsorbents combined with different carbon sources were synthesized and used to remove oil from aqueous solutions. The experimental data showed that the adsorption of oil onto the adsorbents followed the Sips model. The pseudo-second order kinetic model best described the adsorption process. Overall, both adsorbents exhibited high removal efficiency and can be effectively used in industrial adsorption processes.

Summary: The exploration of removal processes for sulfur hexafluoride (SF6) emission through adsorptive separation technology has been driven by public concerns. Using task-specific porous materials, the capture of SF6 can achieve lower energy consumption and a reduced carbon footprint. In this study, four HF resistant porous aromatic frameworks (PAF-XJTU-1 to PAF-XJTU-4) with strong C-C linkage were prepared for the separation of SF6 in semiconductor etching exhaust. Experimental results and theoretical studies confirmed the efficient capture of SF6 in PAF-XJTUs.

Summary: The effects of combined addition of Mg- and Ca-based adsorbents on arsenic-removal performance and leaching inhibition were systematically tested. The results showed that most combined additions improved arsenic-removal performance, except for certain combinations of MgO or Mg(OH)2 with Ca-based adsorbents. The highest arsenic-removal performance was achieved with the combination of MgCO3 and Ca(OH)2. The combination of Mg-based adsorbents with CaO or Ca(OH)2 inhibited Mg-leaching, while the combination of CaO or Ca(OH)2 with MgCO3 inhibited Ca-leaching. The combination of MgCO3 with CaO or Ca(OH)2 improved arsenic-removal performance through incorporation and co-precipitation with arsenic.

Summary: This study investigated the synthesis of biochar from various biomass wastes as a matrix for urea. The aim was to identify the most promising synthesis condition for biochar that retains and releases urea at a slow rate, as well as to understand the interaction between urea and biochar. The results indicated that the interaction between urea and biochar is chemical in nature, with a lower presence of mineral elements and an acidic surface favoring urea retention.

Summary: This study compares the morphology, thermal, and dynamic-mechanical properties of composites based on polybutylene adipate terephthalate/polylactide biocomposites. The results show that the thermal stability of the composites decreases as the sponge gourd content increases. The biocomposite with 10%wt/wt R fiber has the highest storage modulus value.
