Summary: Smart community networks bring both convenience and security risks. To address the increasing zero-day attacks that bypass existing intrusion detection systems (IDS), we propose an evolvable IDS (EIDS) that incrementally updates the detection model to detect unknown attacks. We develop an open-set intrusion detection model based on discriminative auto-encoder and introduce a federated incremental learning method to update the detection model with knowledge from different detectors, avoiding the need for retraining. Experimental results show that EIDS achieves high accuracy in open-set intrusion detection and significantly reduces model update time compared to centralized retraining.

Summary: The proposed approach in this paper utilizes a simplified neural network to detect false data injection (FDI) attacks targeting transmission lines in smart grids. The innovation lies in its ability to detect stealthy attacks that not only bypass state-estimation, but also result in congestion of transmission lines. Numerical results demonstrate the high accuracy of the method in detecting cyber-physical attacks, and case studies are included to test its resilience in various scenarios.
