Summary: This study aims to understand how multichannel digital services can be supported by the integration of real-time data from service ecosystems to provide Smart PSS business models. Using the organizational information-processing theory, the study considers the integration of data from ecosystem actors (other business units, suppliers, and customers). Through a survey of 92 manufacturers, the study provides a typology of different Smart PSS business models and reveals the flow of data in the ecosystem.

Summary: This study aims to provide a clear picture of the literature on Product-Service Systems (PSS), analyzing 45 PSS-related review papers. The results show that descriptive reviews are the most common, indicating a lack of quantitative studies and meta-analyses. The study highlights the need for more research on PSS business models, innovation, and their connection with marketing and strategy.

Summary: Manufacturing servitization, implemented by integrated production and service systems, offers products and associated services. This study explores resource allocation for an IPSS serving two customer classes, finding optimal service for customers with higher cost saving rates. Production policy under light service traffic is similar to a make-to-stock system, effectively hedging uncertainty. Optimal control policies for IPSS extensions show consistency in production and service strategies. Heuristic integrated scheduling policies are developed, with numerical experiments showing one as highly effective.

Summary: Product-based companies are integrating services into their offerings as a key strategy, driven by the acceleration of technological innovation. This has led to the emergence of digital servitization or smart product-service systems (PSS) that incorporate Industry 4.0 technologies. Conducting a comprehensive literature review and text mining of 419 journal articles, this study identifies 10 key research topics and develops an enabler-engineering-goal framework to clarify the dispersed studies of servitization and PSSs in Industry 4.0. The findings contribute to a systematic view across disciplines, promoting academic discussions and industrial transformation.

Summary: Digitalization has become a crucial driver for creating value for customers and stakeholders, and it is important to consider the social and ethical impacts of digital technologies when designing smart product-service systems (PSS). This paper proposes integrating value sensitive design into the PSS design process to address this issue. The design process combines participatory and systematic approaches and enables the consideration of social and ethical values in an iterative manner.

Summary: Servitization is a vital strategy for manufacturers to stay competitive, but existing success stories primarily focus on large enterprises. This study examines the status and applicability of servitization for SMEs in the electrical equipment and basic metal parts manufacturing industries. Through interviews with CEOs, managers, and employees, the research analyzes the current state of servitization and identifies potential opportunities. The findings suggest that servitization is currently low in the industry, mainly due to the limited resources of SMEs, but companies recognize its importance and express willingness to embrace it in the future if given the chance.

Summary: Many studies have shown that Product-Service System (PSS) has the potential to contribute to sustainable management practices and Circular Economy (CE). This research investigated how the agricultural machinery industry perceives environmental sustainability and product-oriented PSS, and proposed a conceptual model for implementing product-oriented PSS in this industry. The study includes a systematic literature review and multiple case studies. The results demonstrate opportunities for offering product-oriented PSS services in traditional industries to guide them towards sustainable practices and highlight the benefits of adopting product-oriented PSS. The diagnosis on sustainability and product-oriented PSS in agricultural machinery companies reveals room for improvement, particularly in addressing socioenvironmental issues.
