Summary: This study introduces a new laparoscopic Pringle maneuver and investigates its application in laparoscopic hepatectomy. The hooking method for intermittent occlusion of hepatic inflow was used in all 17 patients, and it was found to be a simple, safe, and effective method without any major complications.

Summary: Laparoscopic anatomic hepatectomy (LAH) is a commonly performed procedure, but it can be challenging due to the risk of intraoperative bleeding. The two-surgeon technique and the modified LAH technique show potential in reducing bleeding, but more research is needed to determine their effectiveness.

Summary: The study aimed to analyze the impact of minimally invasive intermittent Pringle maneuver (IPM) on postoperative outcomes in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and liver cirrhosis. The findings suggest that the use of IPM in minimally invasive liver resection is safe and feasible for patients with HCC, including those with compensated liver cirrhosis, without increasing the risk of intraoperative blood transfusion or postoperative complications, and without affecting postoperative liver function tests for cirrhotic patients.

Summary: This study introduces a technique for hepatic inflow control using an endovascular clip. By confirming the space between the right and dorsal side of the hepatoduodenal ligament and introducing the clip, hepatic inflow can be controlled. The patients had successful postoperative recovery without any complications and were discharged. This technique may be safe and feasible for open and laparoscopic hepatectomy after esophagectomy.

Summary: The use of Pringle maneuver (PM) during hepatectomy can reduce intraoperative bleeding and the need for perioperative transfusion. However, its effect on long-term recurrence and survival for patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) remains controversial. This study found that not using PM can lower the risk of postoperative recurrence and cancer-specific death for HCC patients.

Summary: The concept of textbook outcome (TO) is gaining popularity in surgical research as a way to evaluate the quality and success of different surgical procedures, including hepatopancreatobiliary (HPB) operations. TO is made up of individual outcome parameters reflecting different care domains, and can be used to assess patient-level outcomes, hospital performance, and quality metrics. Efforts are needed to establish a universal definition of TO in HPB surgery for comparing outcomes and improving patient results.

Summary: Hepatobiliary cancers, including HCC and biliary tract cancers, have significant morbidity and mortality rates. Treatment options vary based on disease stage, with surgical resection offering potential cure for early-stage disease, while ablation and liver transplantation can be considered for inoperable cases. Multi-disciplinary evaluation is essential for optimal management of these cancers.

Summary: The stable gastric pentadecapeptide BPC 157 has cytoprotective and membrane stabilizing properties, and can counteract various venous occlusion-induced syndromes. It maintains endothelium and epithelium stability, recruits collateral blood vessels to compensate for vessel occlusion, and controls VEGF and NO pathways.

Summary: The intracorporeal Pringle maneuver using a urinary catheter is quick, requires less material, and has less risk of gas leak compared to extracorporeal technique. It is easy, reproducible, and safe, making it a good alternative to the classic technique.

Summary: Vascularized composite allotransplantation allows for the reconstruction of complex anatomical structures with loss of substance. Although hand and face transplants remain rare worldwide, they are limited by the burden of immunosuppressive treatments and their consequences. Current research focuses on improving surgical techniques, graft transportation, and immunological treatment in order to achieve better transplant outcomes.

Summary: The study aimed to describe the venous anatomy of the digits and the hand, providing detailed results and photographs of anatomical specimens. The study found a consistent and reliable vascular anatomy of the venous system in the digits and hand, which should be taken into consideration by surgeons when performing hand surgeries to preserve normal venous physiology as much as possible.

Summary: The study reported a 2.5% incidence of axillary arch in female cadavers, and conducted embryological and comparative studies. While embryology failed to explain the variation, comparative anatomy argued in favor of an origin from the panniculus carnosus. The axillary arch, a relatively common variant, should be recognized by clinicians and surgeons.
