Summary: This paper investigates the impact of neutrophils on disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC). The study shows that neutrophils can alleviate coagulopathy and prevent death from sepsis by releasing extracellular vesicles containing superoxide dismutase 2. The findings reveal an interaction between neutrophils and vascular endothelium that critically regulates coagulation in sepsis, which may have implications for the management of DIC.

Summary: Nanoplastics, as persistent pollutants, pose a potential threat to human health in various environments. Recent studies have detected plastic particles in human bloodstream, emphasizing the need to investigate their effects on the cardiovascular system. However, little is known about the cardiovascular toxicity of nanoplastics. This study aimed to evaluate the adverse impacts of polystyrene (PS), PS-NH2, and PS-COOH nanoplastics on mice, revealing structural damage to vascular endothelial cells, inflammation, coagulation dysfunctions, and prethrombotic state caused by nanoplastics via the JAK1/STAT3/TF signaling pathway.

Summary: This study examined the relationship between cognitive impairment and inflammatory markers and carotid intima-media thickness (CIMT) in schizophrenia. The results showed that patients with schizophrenia had lower MoCA scores, higher levels of inflammatory markers, and increased CIMT compared to healthy controls. There was a significant negative correlation between MoCA and CIMT.

Summary: The study measured RNFL and vasculature using OCTA in patients with schizophrenia and bipolar disorder, finding that retinal microvascular dysfunction occurs in the macula but not around the optic disc. OCTA could be an important additional diagnostic tool in detecting psychiatric disorders.

Summary: The study assessed the relationship between prolactin levels and sexual dysfunction in schizophrenia patients using olanzapine. Hyperprolactinemia, sexual dysfunction, and metabolic syndrome were prevalent, with factors such as gender, age, and insulin levels being associated with these conditions. Female patients had higher levels of sexual dysfunction, while male patients had lower prolactin levels.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the associations between plasma thrombomodulin levels and clinical outcomes after ischemic stroke. The results showed that increased plasma thrombomodulin levels were associated with decreased risks of adverse clinical outcomes, suggesting a protective role of thrombomodulin in the development of ischemic stroke.

Summary: Trauma-induced hypercoagulopathy, caused by post-traumatic tissue injury, is a common condition in trauma patients and can significantly increase the risk of thrombotic events and mortality. The Chinese Expert Consensus provides 15 recommendations for the definition, pathophysiological mechanism, assessment, prevention, and treatment of trauma-induced hypercoagulopathy, aiming to guide clinical practice for this condition.

Summary: The study revealed significantly elevated levels of IL-6, IL-10, and IL-17 in patients with acute-on-chronic liver failure combined with sepsis, while IL-4 remained unchanged. These findings suggest a potential correlation between inflammatory factors and the development of coagulation dysfunction and sepsis in liver failure patients. The results provide new insights and strategies for delaying deterioration in clinical practice.

Summary: Both olanzapine and aripiprazole induced adverse effects on beta cell function in female mice, leading to weight gain, glucose intolerance, and impaired insulin secretion. Aripiprazole had a stronger impact on metabolic alterations, likely due to its modulation of the serotonergic system.

Summary: This study found that TRPM7 in endothelial cells regulates coagulation during sepsis, contributing to inflammation and increased mortality. Additionally, TRPM7 expression in circulating endothelial cells accurately predicts mortality in septic shock patients, making it a potential prognostic biomarker and target for treating sepsis-related coagulation disorders.

Summary: Xanthurenic acid (XA) is a metabolite of the kynurenine pathway synthesized in the brain from dietary or microbial tryptophan, suspected to modulate some pathophysiological mechanisms of neuropsychiatric and/or neurodegenerative diseases. Studies have shown that XA may play an important role in the endocrine system and could affect normal dopaminergic activity in the brain.

Summary: Sexual dysfunction is a common symptom in patients with schizophrenia, with nearly one-third of young and middle-aged chronically medicated male inpatients being affected. The severity of PANSS negative factor is an important predictor of sexual dysfunction, and patients with sexual dysfunction exhibit lower pleasure and higher avoidance motivation when exposed to erotic stimuli compared to non-sexual dysfunction patients.

Summary: The aim of this study was to estimate the prevalence of sexual dysfunction in depressive disorders in individuals not in pharmacological treatment. The results showed that sexual dysfunction is common in individuals with major depressive disorder, highlighting the need for systematic evaluation by clinicians. Further research should focus on persistent depressive disorder to understand its role in sexual function.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate whether a genetic feature associated with bipolar disorder can be found in individuals without bipolar disorder but with hyperactivity/exploration traits. The results showed that individuals with hyperactivity/exploration traits but without bipolar disorder were similar to those with bipolar disorder in terms of the frequency of the genetic variant. However, they were different from individuals without both hyperactivity/exploration traits and bipolar disorder. This suggests that considering the genetic profile of bipolar disorder as not an aberrant condition could lead to a new approach that emphasizes the adaptive potential in psychosocial treatment.

Summary: This study aims to evaluate the feasibility of a Cognitive Remediation (CR) intervention using fully immersive Virtual Reality (VR) as an additional treatment for bipolar disorder (BD) and provides preliminary data on its efficacy. The results showed significant improvements in cognitive functions, depressive symptoms, emotional awareness, and biological rhythms in the experimental group compared to the control group. Although the sample size was small, these results provide promising evidence of efficacy and acceptability, highlighting the need for larger studies to confirm these findings.

Summary: The aim of this study was to determine if individuals with a positive score on the Mood Disorder Questionnaire (MDQ) but without comorbidity of mood disorders would have a lower Health-related Quality of life (HRQol) compared to a control group of MDQ negatives. The results showed that MDQ-positive individuals without mood disorders had significantly lower scores on the SF-12, indicating worse HRQol. This suggests the presence of a specific syndrome, Dysregulation of Mood, Energy, and Social Rhythms Syndrome (DYMERS), which may be a trigger for other psychiatric disorders, including bipolar disorder.
