Neutrino experiments can be considered sensitive tools to test Lorentz and CPT invariance. Taking advantage of the great variety of neutrino experiments, including neutrino oscillations, weak decays, and astrophysical neutrinos, the generic experimental signatures of the breakdown of these fundamental symmetries in the neutrino sector are presented.

Explosion analysis from images: Trinity and Beirut

Jorge S. Diaz

Summary: This article discusses the use of explosion images to study physical properties, applying the method to the Beirut explosion of August 2020 and estimating the energy yield. The results are consistent with other recent studies using different methods.

Energetic output of the 2022 Hunga Tonga-Hunga Ha'apai volcanic eruption from pressure measurements

J. S. Diaz, S. E. Rigby

Summary: The violent eruption of the Hunga Tonga-Hunga Ha'apai island volcano on January 15, 2022, generated a powerful pressure wave recorded by instruments worldwide. By analyzing public reports on social media, researchers measured the velocity of the wave using the arrival time of its first passage, and found it to be a constant 1114 +/- 2 km/h (309 +/- 1 m/s). Utilizing measurements from various sources, an empirical pressure-distance relation was used to estimate the energetic output of the eruption, which was found to be approximately equivalent to 61 Mt, surpassing the 1980 eruption of Mount St. Helens and slightly higher than the yield of Tsar Bomba, the largest human-made explosion in history.

Blast wave kinematics: theory, experiments, and applications

J. S. Diaz, S. E. Rigby

Summary: Measurements of shock wave arrival time can determine crucial parameters in the evolution of explosions. By utilizing standard tools and a simple ansatz, a general expression for the shock front Mach number is derived, allowing for visualization and comparison of blast waves from various types of explosions.
