Summary: The limitations of industry-centric and resident-centric approaches in tourism call for innovation to achieve sustainability and resilience. By evolving citizenship theory and integrating citizenship rights, duties, virtues, and behaviors, destination residents can be mobilized effectively towards sustainable and resilient tourism practices. Further studies should focus on issues related to citizenship, tourists' status, and building resilience within the tourism industry.

Summary: The impact of climate change on tourist destinations has led to concerns on destination development, making low-carbon tourism a national and global agenda. This study examines the components and attributes of low-carbon destinations, particularly island destinations, which have not yet been adequately researched. Using the Stimulus-Organism-Response theory, the study explores the actual behaviors of low-carbon tourists by integrating environmental input, emotional status, and behavioral responses. The study also investigates the moderating effect of risk from the perspective of travelers with different levels of perceived risk during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Summary: While the history of Rapa Nui (Easter Island) has often been seen as a cautionary tale of how societies can collapse due to selfish actions and unchecked resource exploitation, new evidence suggests that the island's population was actually sustainable and avoided tragedy of the commons through community practices. This challenges the traditional narrative and presents Rapa Nui as a model for long-term sustainability based on past land-use practices.
