Summary: The research found that the definition of SPHS is primarily based on financial sustainability, but it is also more broadly conceptualized to include acceptability to patients and workforce, resilience through adaptation, and rapid absorption of evidence and innovations. Measures of SPHS are predominantly financial, but recent articles have proposed composite measures that account for financial, social, and health outcomes. Challenges to achieving SPHS include increasingly complex patient populations, limited integration due to entrenched fragmented systems and siloed professional groups, and ongoing translational gaps in evidence-to-practice and policy-to-practice. Improvement strategies for SPHS include developing appropriate workplace cultures, direct community and consumer involvement, and adoption of evidence-based practice and technologies. There is also a strong identified need for long-term monitoring and evaluations to support adaptation of healthcare systems.

Summary: The study found that healthcare and social care policies are characterized by the coexistence and overlap of multiple regimes, resulting in a hybridization of the original welfare taxonomy. Additionally, country classifications differ substantially between healthcare and social care, indicating a lack of coherence in welfare system rationales across policy areas.

Summary: The COVID-19 pandemic has brought attention to the EU's health mandate, leading to discussions on the establishment of a European Health Union (EHU). However, the specific nature of the EHU remains unclear. This paper suggests that the EU's focus on health for all could form the basis of a common definition for the EHU. Key drivers for the development of an EHU include surveillance and monitoring, crisis preparedness, funding, political will, public health expenditure vision, population awareness and interest, and global health. The paper also outlines five scenarios for the development of the EHU, highlighting the importance of coordination and addressing cross-border health threats, while emphasizing the role of political choices made by EU Member States.

Summary: With the abundance of unstructured data, Health Informatics is playing a vital role in providing valuable insights to healthcare units and decision-makers. It enables the prediction of future treatments, improved operations, and the enhancement of public health systems through data analysis. The adoption of appropriate policies and standards is crucial for addressing the new challenges faced by healthcare units in the era of advancing technology.

Summary: The European Urban Burden of Disease project aims to evaluate the health burden and determinants of current and future urban and transport planning practices in European cities. The project will use a comparative risk assessment methodology to quantify the health impacts of various exposures and assess the relationship between exposure levels, health impacts, and city characteristics. Additionally, the project will create a healthy city index and a knowledge translation hub for disseminating information to stakeholders.

Summary: We contribute to the literature by empirically documenting the weakening relationship between public debt fundamentals and sovereign bond spreads in Spain, France, and Italy (versus Germany) after the 2010-2012 episode of significant distress in sovereign debt markets. Our measure of public debt fundamentals is constructed using the Value at Risk approach combined with the estimation of the correlation pattern of macroeconomic determinants of public debt dynamics. We then compare these probabilistic indicators with market-derived sovereign bond spreads.

Summary: This study explores and documents the challenges faced by healthcare workers during obstetric referrals. Both patient and institutional level issues were found to contribute to these challenges, including financial constraints, fears associated with referrals, non-compliance from patients, transportation challenges, poor attitudes of service providers, low staff strength, and healthcare bureaucracies. The study recommends raising awareness among patients about the importance of complying with referrals through health education campaigns, training more healthcare providers to facilitate obstetric referrals, and improving ambulatory services in rural communities to address transportation challenges.

Summary: Doctors working with asylum seekers in Germany have different views and experiences regarding the provision of medical care. They perceive asylum seekers as different from other patients, and the difference in medical settings and norms may impede appropriate care. However, understanding differences attributed to context seems to foster a more caring approach.

Summary: Some East African countries have taken steps towards HIV and NCD service integration, although evidence of effectiveness remains limited. Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania and Uganda recommend integrated delivery of HIV and NCD care in high level health policies and treatment guidelines, while South Sudan and Burundi focus on building healthcare infrastructure without reported plans for HIV and NCD care integration.
