Summary: MIL-88(Fe) was used as an oxidant and hard template for the synthesis of polypyrrole (PPy) on its surface, leading to a rougher surface and more voids in the interior. The increased specific surface area allowed for more benzotriazole (BTA) to be loaded on PPy/MIL-88 particles. BTA/PPy/MIL-88(Fe) was employed as a novel corrosion inhibitor to enhance the corrosion resistance of epoxy coating for carbon steel, improving corrosion resistance without/with artificial scratch and enhancing adhesion by filling the pores inside.

Summary: Superhydrophobic double layered MgAl-LDH/epoxy (DMALE) composite coatings were successfully fabricated on magnesium alloys through hydrothermal synthesis and spraying methods. The as-prepared DMALE coating exhibited superior superhydrophobic and self-cleaning properties, as well as good anti-corrosion property, chemical stability, and high abrasion resistance. This large-scale prepared composite coating shows great potential for corrosion protection of magnesium alloys.

Summary: In this study, a self-healing epoxy coating was prepared using nano-hydrotalcite materials and bifunctional biocide sodium pyrithione, providing a solution with both anticorrosion and antibiofouling properties. The results show that the prepared coating not only has high corrosion resistance but also effectively inhibits bacterial and algal adhesion.

Summary: Thickness-tunable PANI/clay nanocomposites were synthesized and characterized. The results showed that the thickness of the nanocomposites can be easily controlled by adjusting the proportions of PANI and clay, and the oxygen barrier properties of the clay can be enhanced by the growth of PANI. Additionally, the intercalation of PANI/clay additives exhibited synergistic anticorrosion properties.

Summary: This study proposes a novel epoxy resin bonding agent with added coconut fibers to improve the bonding strength of epoxy resin coating systems. Tests showed that the addition of coconut fibers increased pull-off strength of the coating, but a higher volume fraction of fibers led to more pronounced delamination failure between the epoxy resin and substrate.

Summary: In this study, Tri-HDI was used to functionalize reduced graphene, enhancing its dispersion and exfoliation in waterborne epoxy resin. The addition of Tri-HDI-RGO improved the mechanical properties and corrosion resistance of the polymer coatings significantly. The broad applicability of Tri-HDI-RGO as a functional nanofiller in polymer matrices has been confirmed.

Summary: A new type of composite powder coating with environmental protection and good corrosion resistance was developed by using epoxy resin modified PVC powder coating as primer and pure PVC powder coating as topcoat for steel corrosion protection in marine environment. The material showed the highest adhesion and salt spray resistance when the epoxy content in the primer was 50 wt%. The EP-PVC coating exhibited excellent corrosion resistance due to the good adhesion of composite primer and the good barrier and corrosion resistance of the topcoat.

Summary: The study demonstrated that epoxy coatings containing PANP exhibit excellent corrosion resistance and self-healing ability, effectively enhancing the anticorrosive properties of Q235 mild steel. The coatings showed strong barrier effect and O-2 shielding ability, as well as maintaining high impedance modulus in a NaCl solution for 40 days.
