Nanocomposites of hard magnetic SrFe12O19 hexaferrite and soft magnetic CoFe2O4 spinel with exchange spring interaction were obtained by simple solid state reaction during 8 h and 14 hat 1050 degrees C. The structure and morphology of the composites was characterized by X-ray diffraction, infrared spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy. Dielectric and electric response of the composites were found to be similar to the behavior of other ferrites and can be well described within the Koops model of the ceramic consisting of highly conducting grains separated by poorly conducting grain boundaries. Single-phase magnetic hysteresis loops obtained for SrFe12O19/CoFe2O4 composites with weight ratio 4:1 containing similar to 1 wt.% hematite. The difference in magnetization below the temperature of irreversibility, measured in field cooling and zero field cooling experiments in fields exceeding doubled coercivity, was found to be greater for composites synthesized during 4-14 h than that obtained for 22 h. Investigation of magnetic order in a new intermetallic compound Nd2PtGe3

L. S. Litzbarski, M. J. Winiarski, P. Skokowski, T. Klimczuk, B. Andrzejewski

Summary: In this study, we successfully synthesized a new intermetallic compound Nd2PtGe3 using an arcmelting method. The compound crystallizes in a disordered variant of the AlB2-type structure, and exhibits a cluster-glass transition below 2.9K.

Magnetic properties of Sr0.95Nd0.05Fe12-xScxO19 hexaferrite nanoparticles

Summary: Nanocrystallites of Sr0.95Nd0.05Fe12-xScxO19 (0 <= x <= 1.56) were synthesized by citric sol-gel method, showing continuous increase in lattice parameters with increasing x and a decrease in particle size. Magnetic properties were significantly affected by doping, especially in samples with x >= 0.60. The appearance of conical magnetic order was reflected in temperature dependences of extrinsic magnetic properties, with T-cone shifting downwards with increasing field.

Quality Assessment of Low Voltage Surge Arresters

Leszek S. S. Litzbarski, Marek Olesz, Stanislaw Wojtas, Michal J. J. Winiarski, Tomasz Klimczuk, Hubert Glowinski, Bartlomiej Andrzejewski

Summary: Users expect reliable operation of surge arresters during overvoltages, and this expectation can be guaranteed through appropriate construction, maintenance in accordance with technical standards, and positive test results. Buyers can check the product quality through selective testing and find the best supplier. This study conducted tests and analysis on the basic parameters and material properties of low-voltage surge arresters, and proposed a research methodology for predicting the stability of arrester parameters under operating conditions.

Summary: The intermetallic compound Gd2Pt1.1Ge2.9 has been synthesized and characterized. The crystal structure analysis revealed a disordered AlB2-type structure, and magnetic susceptibility and heat capacity measurements indicated the presence of antiferromagnetic order. The magnetic ordering in these compounds was discussed in relation to their crystal structure and the influence of Gd ions.
