Summary: Mamuju is a unique High Natural Background Radiation Area with an average annual effective dose of 32 mSv. The lifetime cumulative dose calculation suggests that residents could receive as much as 2.2 Sv on average, much higher than atomic bomb survivors. The study results provide new scientific data for understanding health effects related to chronic low-dose-rate radiation exposure and can be used in future epidemiology studies.

Summary: Research has shown that thoron isotopes and metallic progeny from unfired-soil building materials in earthen dwellings can pose a higher risk of lung cancer. Results indicate that the thoron exhalation rate from mud surfaces is influenced by the content of radioactive parental nuclides, moisture content, and dry mud density. Additionally, indoor thoron exhalation from mud walls is affected by seasonal and weather conditions, with increased geohazard exposure in cooler temperatures, low VPD, and high humidity.

Summary: This study investigated the release of radon from different water treatment processes and the effect of ventilation on the indoor radon concentration at six waterworks. It revealed that accurate assessment of radon exposure at water treatment plants is very difficult due to the large and sudden temporal variations in the radon concentration and smaller local variations that follow the steps of the water treatment process and ventilation.

Summary: Indoor radon measurement rate is low in Sweden, but machine learning can estimate indoor radon exposure. The study developed XGBoost and DNN models using existing data to predict indoor radon intervals, with promising results from the XGBoost models. The research outcomes provide guidance for relevant authorities in large-scale indoor radon distribution estimation and prioritized onsite measurements.

Summary: This study investigated the risk of lung cancer associated with indoor radon concentrations in Gansu, China, and found a non-significant increase in risk. Despite limitations in sample size, the study highlights the importance of precise exposure assessment for reevaluating the association between residential radon and lung cancer risk in epidemiological studies.

Summary: Radon exposure in upper northern Thailand is reported to be a significant factor contributing to the high incidence of lung cancer in the region. The study found significant differences in indoor radon concentrations between houses of lung cancer cases and healthy controls. It is estimated that indoor radon exposure contributes to approximately 26% of lung cancer deaths in males and 28% in females in this region.

Summary: In this paper, a co-simulation approach was applied to evaluate different control strategies for hybrid ventilation systems in terms of energy consumption and infection risk. The results show that increasing natural ventilation hours during the cooling season can significantly reduce energy demand and enhance infection control. Therefore, the hybrid ventilation system has the potential to maintain a healthy indoor environment and reduce energy consumption when properly regulated through suitable control strategies.

Summary: Integrating phase change material (PCM) and natural night ventilation (NNV) has significantly improved indoor thermal comfort in hot locations. The study found that window orientation has minimal effect on NNV, but the Northeast orientation and larger window size can lead to better indoor temperature reduction.

Summary: This study investigated the indoor radon and thoron concentrations and population exposure in multistoried dwellings in the south-western areas of Dhaka city, Bangladesh. The results showed that thoron contributes an average of 40% to the annual effective dose of radon and is an important factor in estimating radiological inhalation dose. Questionnaire estimation and principal component analysis were used to discuss the indoor atmospheric/radon factors for the investigated dwellings in Dhaka city.

Summary: This study investigated indoor air quality under different ventilation modes in a new residential building in Xi'an, China. Mechanical ventilation was found to effectively reduce the impact of haze weather on indoor PM2.5 concentration, but the control of CO2 concentration needs improvement. The study provides guidance for the optimization of residential mechanical ventilation systems.

Summary: The focus was on developing an INDORAD model for estimating indoor radon dynamics, considering time-dependent meteorological parameters and adjustable soil and building properties. By simplifying mathematical processing and considering all known sources of indoor radon, the model successfully predicted radon concentrations in a laboratory building exposed to high Ra-226 concentration soil.

Summary: Radon and thoron are radioactive gases present in the earth's crust, and their decay products have an impact on human life. This study aimed to measure and quantify the concentration of radon and thoron gases and their decay products in Ludhiana district, Punjab, India, and discuss the associated interpretations. The study found that radon and thoron gas concentrations were higher in the winter season, with radon decay products contributing more to the average inhalation dose.
