Summary: The study found that college students as a whole do not become more liberal over time, but there is strong evidence of peer effects, particularly for conservative students. These findings shed light on the role of higher education in an era of political polarization.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate diabetic autonomic neuropathy (DAN) in people with diabetes using practical tools. The results showed a high frequency of symptomatic DAN, which was associated with factors such as age, blood sugar, and abdominal circumference. Using a digital app to assess DAN symptoms proved to be a practical and easy-to-use method, and there is a need to assess metabolic syndrome in larger samples for DAN evaluations.

Summary: This study investigated the use of CC-EMG recording as a diagnostic tool for identifying PAD in patients with LUTS and concurrent ED. Fifty patients were included in the study, and the findings were compared with urodynamic parameters and ultrasound results. The results showed that patients without PAD had significantly lower values for PVR, P det Q(max), and P det compliance compared to those with PAD. The study also found that increased electrical bursts and decreased relaxation responses on CC-EMG indicated an increase in bladder sphincter contractility.

Summary: The study revealed that dysautonomia may be a possible complication in post-COVID individuals, presenting symptoms such as orthostatic intolerance, sudomotor dysfunction, gastrointestinal issues, and pupillomotor dysfunction. Patients with neurological symptoms had a higher COMPASS-31 score due to more severe orthostatic intolerance symptoms compared to those without neurological symptoms.

Summary: This study found that a 6-week slow, deep breathing (SDB) intervention improved symptoms and altered rectal sensation in constipation-predominant IBS (IBS-C) patients. Additionally, SDB enhanced vagal activity, suggesting that the effect of SDB on IBS-C may be due to mechanisms involving autonomic responses.

Summary: The antibodies (IgG) from patients with fibromyalgia syndrome (FMS) can induce painful hypersensitivities by sensitizing peripheral nociceptive afferents, suggesting that reducing patient IgG levels might be an effective treatment for fibromyalgia.

Summary: Autonomic dysfunction and frailty are common geriatric syndromes that increase with age and have similar negative health outcomes. Frailty is associated with an increased risk of orthostatic hypotension (OH) in older adults, particularly initial OH (IOH). Frail older adults also exhibit other autonomic function alterations such as reduced orthostatic heart rate increase, systolic blood pressure recovery, and heart rate variability.

Summary: Sleep apnea is associated with autonomic dysfunction, rapid eye movement sleep behavior disorder, and dementia. Autonomic dysfunction caused by sleep apnea may contribute to the development of dementia. Treatment of sleep apnea may have an impact on autonomic dysfunction and cognitive outcomes.

Summary: This study investigated the impact of direct-acting antiviral drugs (DAA) therapy on fibromyalgia (FM) symptoms in patients with chronic hepatitis C (CHC). The results showed that CHC patients were more likely to develop FM and implementation of DAA therapy might improve FM symptoms in these patients.

Summary: This study aimed to examine the relationship between nutritional biomarkers and heart rate variability (HRV) parameters in stroke patients. The results showed that HRV parameters were significantly lower in the nutritional biomarker-deficient groups. Serum albumin, prealbumin, and transferrin levels were associated with autonomic nervous system (ANS) function, as measured by HRV, and their deficiency may be a predictive factor for the severity of ANS dysfunction in stroke patients.

Summary: The study found that in older adults undergoing 12 weeks of supervised exercise therapy for peripheral artery disease, about one-third showed nonresponse to exercise, while over four in ten exhibited poor response. Most participants improved in at least one aspect, but only a small number improved in all measured outcomes.

Summary: The study showed that single-leg exercise training can improve impaired skeletal muscle oxidative flux in people with type 2 diabetes, leading to increased skeletal muscle vasculature and oxygen delivery efficiency. This type of training is effective in improving cardiorespiratory fitness in individuals with type 2 diabetes.

The evidence suggests that light and moderate intensity activity breaks can acutely lower blood pressure, but further research is needed to understand the impact on other vascular outcomes.
