Distribution of HIV self-tests by men who have sex with men attending a French sexual health centre: results of the OTO study

Daniel Gosset, Marine Plathey, France Lert, Stephane Lasry, Thibaut Jedrzejewski, Philippe Gazalet, Thomas L'Yavanc, Nadege Pierre, Abdessamad Kachal, Marc Fremondiere, Michel Ohayon, Romain Palich

Summary: This study aimed to assess the proportion and characteristics of MSMs attending sexual health centers who distributed HIV self-tests (HSTs), as well as the characteristics of people who received HSTs. The results showed that most participants were willing to distribute HSTs themselves, and the majority of recipients were MSMs who had not been tested for a long time. This study demonstrates the potential of MSMs in promoting HIV self-testing.

Birth Country Influences the Choice of Antiretroviral Therapy in HIV-Infected Individuals: Experience From a French HIV Centre

Romain Palich, Rachid Agher, Dimoke J. Wetshikoy, Lise Cuzin, Sophie Seang, Cathia Soulie, Roland Tubiana, Marc-Antoine Valantin, Luminita Schneider, Valerie Pourcher, Anne-Genevieve Marcelin, Lambert Assoumou, Christine Katlama

Summary: This study aims to explore the differences in antiretroviral therapy (ART) prescriptions between naive and virally suppressed HIV patients born in France and Sub-Saharan Africa. The findings suggest that the differences in ART prescriptions between these two groups cannot solely be explained by different clinical and virologic situations.

Viral loads in clinical samples of men with monkeypox virus infection: a French case series

Romain Palich, Sonia Burrel, Gentiane Monsel, Agathe Nouchi, Alexandre Bleibtreu, Sophie Seang, Vincent Berot, Cecile Brin, Ariane Gavaud, Yara Wakim, Nagisa Godefroy, Antoine Faycal, Yanis Tamzali, Thomas Grunemwald, Michel Ohayon, Eve Todesco, Valentin Leducq, Stephane Marot, Vincent Calvez, Anne-Genevieve Marcelin, Valerie Pourcher

Summary: This study describes the distribution of Monkeypox virus (MPXV) in the human body, and the results show that the virus is more frequently detected and has higher viral loads in the skin, anus, and throat. These findings suggest that transmission most likely occurs through direct body contact.

Is There a Reduction in Chemsex Practice in Men Who Have Sex With Men During COVID-19 Lockdown? Results of the CheRRLock Study

Thomas L'Yavanc, Daniel Gosset, Marine Plathey, Thibaut Jedrzejewski, Philippe Gazalet, Stephane Lasry, Nadege Pierre, Abdessamad Kachal, Marc Fremondiere, Michel Ohayon, Romain Palich

Summary: This study investigated changes in chemsex practices during COVID-19 lockdown among MSM in France and factors associated with maintaining or increasing chemsex practice. The results showed an overall increase in chemsex practice, but a decrease in the number of sexual partners. Feeling lonely, craving, and working during lockdown were significantly associated with maintaining or increasing chemsex practice, whereas fear of COVID-19 was associated with a decrease in chemsex practice.

Country of birth is associated with antiretroviral therapy choice in treatment-naive persons with HIV in France

Romain Palich, Maxime Hentzien, Laurent Hocqueloux, Claudine Duvivier, Clotilde Allavena, Thomas Huleux, Pierre Delobel, Alain Makinson, David Rey, Lise Cuzin

Summary: This study aimed to describe factors associated with the choice of first antiretroviral therapy (ART) in persons with HIV (PWH) in France, including the country of birth, as well as the time to undetectable viral load and treatment discontinuation. The results showed that, regardless of HIV disease parameters, PWH born abroad were less likely to choose integrase strand transfer inhibitors (INSTI) as a first-line therapy compared to those born in France. Therefore, qualitative data are needed to better understand physicians' prescribing practices.

Psychosocial factors involved in the very rare use of HIV testing among French MSM: a cross-sectional study

Renaud Mabire-Yon, Marion Di Ciaccio, Herve Picard, Romain Palich, Virginie Supervie, Marie Preau

Summary: Among MSM in France, the average time between HIV infection and testing is too long, leading to late diagnosis. Understanding the psychosocial factors associated with infrequent HIV testing can help reach MSM who are unknowingly infected for a long time.

Doravirine plus lamivudine two-drug regimen as maintenance antiretroviral therapy in people living with HIV: a French observational study

Pascale Perfezou, Nolwenn Hall, Jean-Charles Duthe, Basma Abdi, Sophie Seang, Cedric Arvieux, Isabelle Lamaury, Amelie Menard, Anne-Genevieve Marcelin, Christine Katlama, Romain Palich

Summary: This study reports the experience of using doravirine/lamivudine as maintenance therapy in HIV patients. The results showed that this treatment regimen can effectively suppress viral replication and improve CD4+ T cell count.

Low-level viral loads and virological failure in the integrase strand transfer era

Lise Cuzin, Philippe Flandre, Clotilde Allavena, Romain Palich, Claudine Duvivier, Agathe Becker, Helene Laroche, Pascal Pugliese, Andre Cabie, Dat'AIDS Study Grp

Summary: This study analyzed the occurrence of virological failure (VF) in patients starting ART with an integrase strand transfer inhibitor (INSTI)-based regimen in recent years and its relationship with previous episodes of low-level viral load (LLVL). The results showed that LLVL was associated with VF, and even in the absence of subsequent failure, LLV episodes have a cost. Therefore, any viral load value above 50 copies/mL should lead to enhanced adherence counseling.

Intermittent Bictegravir/Emtricitabine/Tenofovir Alafenamide Treatment Maintains High Level of Viral Suppression in Virally Suppressed People Living with HIV

Baptiste Sellem, Basma Abdi, Minh Le, Roland Tubiana, Marc-Antoine Valantin, Sophie Seang, Luminita Schneider, Antoine Faycal, Gilles Peytavin, Cathia Soulie, Anne-Genevieve Marcelin, Christine Katlama, Valerie Pourcher, Romain Palich

Summary: In this observational study, researchers evaluated the effectiveness of administering bictegravir/emtricitabine/tenofovir alafenamide (B/F/TAF) 5 or 4 days a week in maintaining viral suppression in people living with HIV. The study included 85 patients who started intermittent B/F/TAF between November 28, 2018, and July 30, 2020. The results showed a high success rate in terms of both virological success and strategy success, indicating that the intermittent dosing of B/F/TAF could effectively control HIV replication while reducing exposure to antiretroviral therapy (ART).
