Summary: This qualitative study interviewed 21 adults with HS-related pain to understand their pain experiences. Pain affected various aspects of their lives and many participants managed their pain without medical guidance. Asking HS patients about their pain can help identify unmet needs, improve pain management, and enhance quality of life.

Summary: The project aimed to design and construct a microscopic stage for observing biological cells in a constant magnetic field, facing challenges of designing magnets to produce constant and weak magnetic fields, and polymer rings to maintain shape under biological conditions. Experiments showed that magnetic microparticles can move and be influenced by magnetic forces on the stage.

Summary: This research proposes using skin equivalent as a coverage material for robots to achieve more harmonious and natural human-robot interactions. By replicating human appearance and self-healing ability, the researchers created a three-joint robotic finger covered with skin equivalent and demonstrated wound repair using grafted collagen sheet. The results indicate the potential of using skin equivalent as a human-like and self-healing coverage material for robots.

Summary: Decreased physical activity and activities of daily living in hemodialysis patients are associated with a poor prognosis. Peripheral arterial disease further contributes to this deterioration. A study was conducted to assess the difficulty in activities of daily living and life-space assessment in different groups of hemodialysis patients based on their ankle-brachial index values. The findings revealed that patients with lower ankle-brachial index values exhibited higher rates of frailty and lower levels of life-space assessment and activities of daily living. Hence, patients with decreased ankle-brachial index values are likely to experience decline in physical activity and activities of daily living due to frailty and claudication.

Summary: This study synthesizes qualitative research on the experience of people with migraine, revealing the negative impact of migraine on various aspects of life, including family, work, and social relationships. It also highlights the emotional distress experienced by migraine sufferers and the coping strategies they use. The findings emphasize the need to raise awareness of this disabling condition in society and improve the quality of care provided to migraine patients from a social and health-policy perspective.

Summary: This study identifies and evaluates four categories of benefits associated with not living in a nursing home (NH), focusing on the Quality Adjusted Life Year (QALY) outcome effect. The results show that NHs have direct and indirect effects on the quality of life and life expectancy through increased dementia symptoms. The valuation of QALY effects is based on literature regarding the value of a statistical life year. Additionally, the study considers the savings from not incurring expenses for a NH as a fifth category of foregone benefits. The total losses incurred amount to $1.93 trillion.

Summary: The aim of this study was to gain comprehensive insight into the quality of life of parental living liver donors after liver donation. The study found that overall quality of life was good among parental living liver donors, but it was lower among females, unmarried individuals, and those who were near post-donation. Post-donation care should include social and financial support in addition to physical and mental health care.
