Summary: A 60-year-old smoker with a history of liver cirrhosis and COPD presented with hypoxic respiratory failure, which was believed to be due to exacerbation of COPD. After excluding other potential causes, hepatopulmonary syndrome was confirmed through contrast echocardiography and a technetium-99m macroaggregated albumin scan.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the impact of an online mind-body intervention on mental and physical symptoms in patients with primary biliary cholangitis. The results showed significant improvements in depression, perceived stress, and certain indicators of quality of life in the intervention group. Although no improvements in fatigue were observed in the main analysis, a significant benefit was found in a subgroup of intervention participants who adhered to the mind-body video routine.

Summary: In this study, the link between long-term exposure to ambient air pollution, specifically PM2.5, and mortality from Parkinson's Disease (PD) was investigated in seven European cohorts. The results suggest that long-term exposure to PM2.5 may contribute to PD mortality, even at levels below current EU air pollution limits.

Summary: This study compared the risk of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) in chronic hepatitis B (CHB) patients receiving tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (TDF) versus entecavir (ETV) treatment. The results showed that patients receiving TDF had a significantly lower HCC risk, especially those with HBeAg positivity.

Summary: During the lockdown period from May 16 to July 26, 2021, patients had longer hospital stays and higher biliary tract enzyme levels, indicating more severe disease. However, ERCP could be safely and successfully performed even during the lockdown period without causing an increase in procedure-related complications and mortality.

Summary: This study retrospectively enrolled 2198 patients with HCC and normal serum AFP levels. The results showed that liver functional reserve, anti-viral therapy, tumor size, vascular invasion, and treatment modalities were prognostic factors for HCC patients with normal serum AFP levels, while serum AFP levels themselves were not associated with prognosis.

Summary: This study demonstrates the application of artificial empathy based on facial emotion recognition to evaluate doctor-patient relationships. The results showed that doctors expressed more emotions than patients, and patients felt happier towards the end of the session, indicating a good doctor-patient relationship.

Summary: The aim of this study was to evaluate the radiotherapy (RT)-pharmacokinetics (PK) effect of cabozantinib in concurrent or sequential regimens with external beam radiotherapy (EBRT) or stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT). The RT-drug interactions of cabozantinib under RT were confirmed in a free-moving rat model. The biodistribution of cabozantinib in the heart is modulated by off-target irradiation and SBRT doses simultaneously.

Summary: A genome-wide association study in the Han Chinese population identified six genetic variants associated with hand osteoarthritis, located at the 2p13.2 region downstream of the CYP26B1 gene. Among these variants, rs12713768 was found to be associated with susceptibility to and severity of hand osteoarthritis, suggesting the involvement of the retinoic acid signaling pathway in its pathogenesis.

Summary: Lupus nephritis is a severe complication in systemic lupus erythematosus patients. It is traditionally believed to be caused by immune complex deposition and complement interactions. Recent research has revealed that resident kidney cells and genetically restricted adaptive immune cells also play a role in the inflammation. Biomarkers for diagnosis and monitoring of lupus nephritis are important, as well as developing specific therapeutic strategies.

Summary: By analyzing national registers in Taiwan, we found that parents who experienced the death of a child had an increased risk of mortality. This risk was higher for bereaved mothers than fathers. The cause of the child's death did not affect the risk, but parents whose child died from unexpected causes were at greater risk. Additionally, the risk was higher when the child was older than 1 year at the time of death.

Summary: Patients with young-onset dementia (YOD) are at increased risks of adverse outcomes after hospitalization for motor vehicle crash injury (MVCI). This retrospective cohort study found that YOD patients had higher rates of ICU admission, respiratory failure, in-hospital mortality, 30-day mortality, length of hospital stay, and hospital costs compared to MVCI patients without YOD.

Summary: The aim of this study was to investigate the correlations among cytokines and regulatory T cells (T-regs) in ankylosing spondylitis (AS) patients, as well as their changes after anti-tumour necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-alpha) treatment. The results showed that the frequency of T-regs in peripheral blood was positively correlated to disease activity indices and inflammatory markers in AS patients. After TNF-alpha treatment, there was a significant decrease in TNF-alpha levels, IL-10 levels, TGF-beta levels, and frequency of T-regs in peripheral blood of AS patients.

Summary: This study used a novel microdialysis sampling coupled with solid-phase extraction liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (MD-SPE-LC-MS/MS) to investigate the toxicokinetics (TK) of AA-I and AA-II and their corresponding aristolactams (AL-I and AL-II) in Sprague Dawley rats. Real-time monitoring revealed that AA-I was absorbed, distributed, and eliminated more rapidly than AA-II. The metabolism efficiency of AA-I to AL-I was higher compared to AA-II to AL-II. These findings support the hypothesis that differences in the in vivo metabolism of AA-I and AA-II may contribute to their differential toxicities.
