Summary: Female sex, absence of lymph node metastasis, increased number of lymph nodes dissected, and postoperative adjuvant therapy were associated with better outcomes among patients with primary malignant melanoma of the esophagus (PMME). Additionally, the preoperative diagnosis rate of PMME was low, lymph node metastasis was common even among patients with early-stage tumors.

Summary: This article provides a systematic review of primary malignant melanoma of the esophagus (PMME) in terms of its history, epidemiology, treatment, and future research directions. PMME is an extremely rare form of esophageal cancer that has been subject to debate regarding its existence. Over time, more cases have been reported, increasing knowledge and paving the way for discussions on treatment. Currently, surgery remains the primary treatment approach, but new therapeutic strategies, such as nivolumab, are being explored. Future studies with large case series, including clinicopathological and molecular data, are needed to improve the outcome of PMME patients.

Summary: This study retrospectively analyzed the clinical characteristics and treatment outcomes of 17 patients with PMME. The results showed that radical resection surgery did not guarantee favorable treatment outcomes, and a novel treatment strategy is needed. Immunotherapy may have some efficacy for PMME patients, but further large-scale studies are warranted to confirm its effectiveness.

Summary: In this study, the response and survival of patients with primary malignant melanoma of the esophagus (PMME) and non-esophageal mucosal melanoma (NEMM) under anti-PD-1 monotherapy were analyzed. PMME showed a better response to anti-PD-1 treatment compared to NEMM, with higher objective response rate and disease control rate. Genomic and transcriptome analyses revealed molecular differences between PMME and NEMM, supporting the distinct molecular characteristics of PMME.

Summary: Primary urinary tract malignant melanoma is a rare malignancy with poor survival rates. This study analyzed a large-scale North American cohort of newly diagnosed patients and found that tumor origin within the bladder independently predicted a higher overall mortality, even after adjustment for SEER stage and systemic therapy status.

Summary: This paper reports a case of primary malignant melanoma of the esophagus in a 73-year-old male patient. The patient presented with progressive dysphagia and significant weight loss. Gastroscopy revealed a purple black bulging-type mass in the lower esophagus with easy bleeding on contact and scattered satellite lesions in the stomach. Histopathological biopsy confirmed the presence of melanocytes in the esophageal mucosa. Through this case report and literature review, the clinical and molecular pathological features of primary malignant melanoma of the esophagus are described, and possible pathways of pathogenesis as well as cutting-edge therapeutic advances are summarized.

Summary: This study investigated the clinical features and survival factors in Chinese patients with primary malignant melanoma of the esophagus (PMME). The findings showed a low rate of accurate diagnosis before surgery and a high rate of lymph node metastasis. Multivariate analysis revealed that the pT stage and lymph node metastasis were independent prognostic factors for overall survival in patients with PMME.

Summary: This study examined the genomic characteristics of recurrent primary malignant melanoma of the esophagus (PMME) and found that it has a high rate of recurrence and metastasis, along with genetic instability and intra-tumor heterogeneity. The study also identified a mutation associated with poor patient prognosis and highlighted the importance of understanding early PMME recurrence for optimizing treatment.

Summary: This study comprehensively characterizes the genomic features of primary malignant melanoma of the esophagus (PMME) and suggests that PMME may share similar genomic patterns with skin cutaneous melanoma (SKCM). Additionally, a mutational signature related to ultraviolet radiation has predictive value for survival outcomes in patients.

Summary: This study evaluated parathyroidectomy for primary hyperparathyroidism (PHPT) in terms of localization, surgical characteristics, and treatment outcomes. The results showed that ultrasound, computed tomography, and single-photon emission computed tomography accurately localized the pathological parathyroid gland. Intraoperative parathyroid hormone monitoring and nerve monitoring shortened operating time and improved surgical outcomes.

Summary: This study describes the clinical characteristics and surgical prognosis of PIAs, finding that this disease has a higher incidence in males and most cases show evidence of old hemorrhage on preoperative MRI. Through statistical analysis, complete resection surgery plays a crucial role in treating this rare disease.

Summary: This study retrospectively analyzed 28 cases of primary intracranial angiosarcomas (PIAs) and found a higher incidence in male patients than in female patients. Most cases showed evidence of old hemorrhage on preoperative MRI. Statistical analysis revealed that total resection plays a crucial role in treating this rare disease.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate complication rates and the impact of nutritional status on the outcomes of endoscopic stenting (ES). The results showed that ES is a relatively safe procedure for the palliative treatment of esophageal strictures, and severe malnutrition does not affect the outcomes of the procedure.

Summary: For patients with ARM, both surgical intervention and immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICI) may have a positive impact on survival. This study found that in patients with advanced disease, ICI treatment resulted in significantly better survival rates compared to traditional chemotherapy. However, further research is needed to identify predictive factors for response and improve patient selection.
