Summary: The family of orthogonal minimally aliased response surface (OMARS) designs includes traditional response surface designs and definitive screening designs. The key features of OMARS designs are orthogonality for main effects and no aliasing with two-factor interaction effects or quadratic effects. This article presents a method to block OMARS designs in order to estimate main effects independently and confound interaction and quadratic effects as little as possible. The new blocking method for OMARS designs offers flexibility in choosing the number of runs, blocks, and block sizes, often outperforming existing arrangements in literature and software.

Summary: Lasso regression and optimal design of experiments have a critical property in common: their optimal solutions are typically sparse. Utilizing this property, we have developed safe screening rules and a fast path tracking algorithm that can be applied to high-dimensional problems, greatly simplifying the computational process.

Summary: Definitive screening design is tested for plasma polymeric silicon organic coatings as protective coatings for polyethylene terephthalate (PET) against the influence of NaOH alkaline solutions. The optimization of coatings is achieved by increasing the microwave pulse length. The optimized coatings showed good performance initially but lost stability after 50 minutes of exposure.

Summary: The production of biodiesel from Prosopis julifera seed oil using ethanol as solvent and magnesium oxide nanocatalyst was optimized using the definitive screening design method. The maximum biodiesel yield obtained was 32.5%, and acid esterification and transesterification were applied to reduce the acidity. The optimal biodiesel conversion efficiency achieved was 94.83% under specific reaction conditions.

Summary: This study proposes a methodology for systematically enumerating conference designs and DSDs, and demonstrates its potential by enumerating all conference designs with up to 24 rows and columns. It also provides DSDs that minimize the correlation among contrast vectors of second-order effects.

Summary: This case study demonstrates a new method of creating a special resin using a definitive screening design (DSD) in a three-step process. By varying factors in the polymerization step and subsequent finish steps, important resin properties were analyzed using a full quadratic model for response surface modeling (RSM), while screening was used for additional responses.

Summary: In this study, an optimized formulation of a photocrosslinkable adhesive patch called GelPatch was developed for repairing ocular tissue injuries. The formulation was determined through a multifactorial definitive screening design analysis and a predictive model was generated to identify the correlations between the factors impacting critical response parameters.

Summary: Conversion of nonfood natural products to value-added products is an important worldwide work. Microwave-assisted hydrodistillation (MAHD) process of essential oils from Rumex Crispus leaves was investigated for improved utilization value. Optimized extraction conditions yielded essential oils with high quality and high percentage of oxygenated compounds, particularly α-santol and β-santol. MAHD is successfully employed for industrial applications, and a definitive screening design is a reliable method for predicting experimental parameters.

Summary: The objective of this study is to define the problem of MEG sensor array design as an engineering problem of accurately measuring neuronal magnetic fields. The vector spherical harmonics (VSH) formalism is used to define a figure-of-merit for the sensor array. By optimizing this figure-of-merit, high-quality sensor array configurations can be obtained.
