Summary: This study reveals a mechanism of immune escape in lung cancer, showing that activation of the transcription factor brachyury leads to upregulation of PD-L1, inhibiting T cell proliferation and infiltration. Blocking the FGFR1/MAPK pathway reverses immune suppression and enhances the therapeutic response to anti-PD-1 treatment.

Summary: High temperature induces stomatal opening, but uncontrolled stomatal opening is dangerous for plants. We identified a high-temperature sensitive mutant in maize linked to a single base change in ZmMPK20 gene. The mutant exhibited increased stomatal opening and water loss rate, as well as decreased thermotolerance. Overexpression of ZmMPK20 decreased stomatal apertures, water loss rate, and enhanced plant thermotolerance.

Summary: This study investigates the pivotal role of Nuclear factor-erythroid 2-related factor 2 (NRF2) in the activation of DNA damage repair in lung cancer cells after x-rays exposure. The study shows that NRF2 knockdown disrupts damaged DNA repair and homologous recombination, and NRF2 activation mediates DNA damage response via the MAPK pathway. These findings suggest that NRF2 plays a critical role in the development of radioresistance, which is of great significance for the development of radiotherapies.

Summary: Our study has for the first time established the direct role of OSMR in regulating osteogenic differentiation of marrow stromal progenitor cells through ERK-mediated autophagy signaling. OSMR thus contributes to bone homeostasis through dual regulation of osteoblasts and osteoclasts. It also suggests that OSMR may be a potential target for the treatment of metabolic disorders such as osteoporosis.

Summary: Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis is a chronic and progressive fibrotic lung disease, and current treatments are limited by their side effects. Research has shown that sustained elevation of cAMP in the nucleus is necessary for efficient inhibition of PDGF-induced nuclear ERK and fibroblast proliferation in human lung fibroblasts.

Summary: This review provides a historic and recent understanding of the role of mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) cascades in plant immunity, response to environmental stresses, and normal growth and development. The signaling specificity of MAPKs in plants is an interesting topic of research and is influenced by factors such as activation kinetics, spatial and temporal expression patterns, and functional characterization of MAPK substrates.

Summary: This study demonstrates that CAMSAP3 plays an intriguing role in lung carcinoma cell senescence-associated phenotypes through modulating p-ERK/cyclin D1 signaling pathway. CAMSAP3 knockout promotes senescence and G1 cell cycle arrest in lung cancer cells by downregulating p-ERK and cyclin D1 levels. Vimentin appears to be required as a scaffold for CAMSAP3-modulating ERK signaling in lung cancer cells.

Summary: This study investigates the relationship between Connexin 43 (Cx43) expression and induction of brain-derived neurotrophic factor(BDNF) production by antidepressants. The results show that downregulated Cx43 expression in depression patients might contribute to the therapeutic efficacy of antidepressants rather than the pathogenesis of depression. Furthermore, the study reveals that amitriptyline treatment potentiates BDNF expression in Cx43-knockdown astrocytes through LPA receptor(1/3) stimulation and subsequent activation of Src-ERK signaling.

Summary: This study investigated the activity of ERK1/2 in autism spectrum disorder (ASD). The results showed that lymphocytic ERK1/2 activation was faster in individuals with ASD, and this was correlated with greater social impairment. The differences in ERK1/2 activation were more pronounced in younger individuals.

Summary: The study investigated the transcriptional changes in pea roots treated with COs using RNA sequencing. It was found that there were 886 differentially expressed genes 24 hours after treatment with CO8-DA at low concentration. The findings suggest that calcium signaling regulators and MAPK cascade play a key role in pea plant responses to COs treatment.
