Effects of Hot Chemical Etching and 10-Metacryloxydecyl Dihydrogen Phosphate (MDP) Monomer on the Bond Strength of Zirconia Ceramics to Resin-Based Cements

Purpose: The purpose of this in vitro study was to evaluate the hot chemical etching method on the shear bond strength between zirconia and two resin cements. Materials and Methods: Sixty zirconia specimens (13 x 7.5 x 2.5 mm(3)) were prepared and treated as follows: (1) airborne-particle abrasion with 50 m Al2O3 particles; (2) hot chemical etching for 10 minutes; (3) hot chemical etching for 30 minutes. Sixty composite cylinders of 3 mm diameter and height were prepared and bonded to zirconia specimens, which were divided into subgroups A and B. Group A: cemented with conventional resin cement (Variolink II); group B: cemented with 10-metacryloxydecyl dihydrogen phosphate (MDP) monomer containing resin cement (Panavia SA) after the application of surface treatments. Next, the specimens were stored in 37oC distilled water for 24 hours. Following water storage, shear bond strength test was performed at a 1 mm/min crosshead speed in a universal testing machine. The statistical analyses were performed with one-way ANOVA and post hoc Tukey tests. p < 0.05 was considered statistically significant. Results: The results from all of the tested groups exhibited lower shear bond strength values than group II-B and higher shear bond strength values than group I-A (p < 0.05). Conclusion: The use of the hot chemical etching method for 10 minutes increased the shear bond strength of zirconia ceramics to both conventional and resin cements and seems to be an effective method. The MDP monomer-containing resin cement, Panavia SA, improved the resin bonding of zirconia ceramics when combined with airborne-particle abrasion.

Summary: The study found that acid-etched PEEK demonstrated the highest bonding strength and Weibull modulus under different environmental pressures. The bonding strength of different PEEK surface treatments was affected by environmental pressure changes under pressure cycles. Dentists need to consider the risks of patients exposed to different barometric changes when selecting materials for restorations.

Influence of oxygen effect in coating layer on tensile bond strength of PMMA

Summary: The aim of this study is to enhance the tensile bond strength between PMMA and soft liner using Thermionic Vacuum Arc (TVA). The results showed that the ZnO coating with TVA is effective in improving the surface properties of PMMA compared to Ag and SnO2 groups, and holds promise for clinical use.

The effect of environmental pressure changes on the bond strength between zirconia ceramic and adhesive resin cement

Summary: This study examines the effect of environmental pressure changes on the bond strength between zirconia ceramics and adhesive resin cement. The results suggest that pressure changes have minimal impact on the bond strength, but there is a significant difference when high pressure and low pressure are combined.

Effect of Thermal Cycling on the Flexural Strength and Hardness of New-Generation Denture Base Materials

Summary: This study evaluated the flexural strength and Vickers microhardness of different CAD-CAM denture base materials. The results showed that graphene-reinforced polymethylmethacrylate had the highest flexural strength and Vickers microhardness values, regardless of thermal cycling. Thermal cycling reduced the flexural strength of all resins, but had minimal effect on the microhardness of milled polymethylmethacrylate and 3D-printed resin.

Could Helium Plasma Treatment be a Novel Approach to Prevent the Biofilm Formation of Candida albicans?

Summary: This study evaluated the effect of Helium plasma treatment on preventing or reducing C. albicans adherence, viability, and biofilm formation on PMMA surfaces. The results showed that Helium plasma treatment significantly reduced C. albicans viability and biofilm formation. This suggests that Helium plasma treatment may be an effective strategy in modifying PMMA surfaces to prevent denture stomatitis formation.

Influence of polishing technique and coffee thermal cycling on the surface roughness and color stability of additively and subtractively manufactured resins used for definitive restorations

Summary: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of different polishing techniques and coffee thermal cycling on the surface roughness and stainability of 3D printed and subtractively manufactured resins. The results showed that subtractively manufactured resin had lower surface roughness compared to other materials, and conventional polishing technique resulted in lower surface roughness.

Effect of coffee thermal cycling on the surface properties and stainability of additively manufactured denture base resins in different layer thicknesses

Summary: The study aimed to compare the effects of coffee thermal cycling on surface roughness, hardness, and color stability of denture base resins manufactured using different methods. The results showed that polishing reduced surface roughness significantly, while coffee thermal cycling had a minimal effect. Most materials exhibited acceptable surface roughness and color stability after both polishing and coffee thermal cycling.

Evaluation of bite force, quality of life, and patients' satisfaction in elderly edentulous patients using implant overdentures

Summary: This study compared the bite force between complete dentures and implant overdentures, and evaluated the quality of life and patient satisfaction among individuals using implant overdentures. The study found that implant overdentures had higher bite force values compared to complete dentures. Factors such as age, interimplant distance, attachment height, attachment color, sex, and implant diameter were found to impact oral health-related quality of life and patient satisfaction.

Enhancement of Adhesive Bonding Properties of Polyetheretherketone-based Materials using Plasma Surface Modifications

Summary: This study investigated the effects of plasma surface treatments and methyl methacrylate-based adhesives on polyetheretherketone.
