Summary: In this study comparing one-step screening with two-step screening for gestational diabetes mellitus, the one-step approach resulted in more diagnoses of gestational diabetes mellitus but did not have a significant impact on the incidence of adverse perinatal and maternal outcomes.

Summary: This study explores the association between gestational FT3 and TT3 levels and adverse obstetric outcomes. The findings suggest that FT3 and TT3 levels have different associations with various adverse obstetric outcomes, with high TT3 associated with an increased risk of gestational hypertension and low TT3 associated with a higher risk of very preterm birth.

Summary: Different factors, such as advanced age and high pre-pregnancy BMI, contribute to elevated HbA1c levels in pregnant women with GDM. Monitoring and controlling blood glucose levels have shown effectiveness in reducing adverse pregnancy outcomes, especially in cases of excessive GWG.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the incretin response during an oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) in pregnant women. The results showed that insulin secretion was lower in women with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM), but the increase in GLP-1 was only associated with insulin secretion in GDM women. Additionally, postprandial GLP-1 levels were negatively associated with birth weight.

Summary: This study aimed to implement a community-based screening and awareness-raising project for gestational diabetes in Ahmedabad, India. By training medical personnel to screen pregnant women, a high prevalence of gestational diabetes was found, indicating the need for implementing this project on a larger scale.

Summary: This study investigated plasma proteins in gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) patients to identify predictive markers for the development of preeclampsia (PE). The levels of soluble transferrin receptor (sTfR), ceruloplasmin (CP) and apolipoprotein E (ApoE) in plasma were found to have potential clinical applications for early screening.

Summary: The study found that HbA1c can be used as a biomarker for screening GDM and reduce the need for GCT. However, the accuracy of the HbA1c test is not sufficient to be used as the sole diagnostic method, and combining it with OGTT may be more effective.

Summary: The timing of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) diagnosis and gestational weight gains (GWG) during pregnancy are associated with the growth trajectory of children from perinatal to early childhood. GDM diagnosed before 26 weeks increases the risk of fetal overgrowth and higher birth weight, as well as higher BMI peak within 48 months. Maternal early GDM diagnosis and excessive gestational weight gains have additive impacts on offspring overgrowth, with higher levels of hsCRP observed in the early EGWG group.

Summary: This study investigated the relationship between hypertensive disorders of pregnancy (HDP) and the risk of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) in children. It found that children born to mothers with HDP had higher rates of preterm-birth and small-for-gestational-age, both of which are risk factors for ASD. The study also suggested that HDP may not be a major contributor to ASD, but rather preterm-birth and SGA play a moderating role in increasing ASD risks.

Summary: This study compared the effects of different glycemic criteria for the diagnosis and treatment of gestational diabetes on women and infants. The results showed that using lower glycemic criteria did not reduce the risk of macrosomia, and it led to more labor inductions, use of health services, pharmacologic agents, and neonatal hypoglycemia. For women with glucose test results between the lower and higher criteria, those who received treatment had better maternal and infant health outcomes.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the utility of HbA1c in the early detection of gestational diabetes in the first trimester. The results showed that first-trimester HbA1c cannot replace OGTT for the diagnosis of GDM due to its insufficient sensitivity and specificity. However, women with higher first-trimester HbA1c had a higher risk of developing GDM.

Summary: This study used national population-based data from Norway and community-based data to analyze the association between maternal background and the season of pregnancy onset with the incidence of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM). The results showed that there is a significant correlation between the season of pregnancy onset and the incidence of GDM in both Norwegian-born and immigrant women. Women with European ancestry had the highest incidence of GDM when pregnancy started in autumn and winter, while ethnic African and Asian women had the highest incidence when pregnancy onset was in summer.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the impact of gestational diabetes risk factors on the physical health and neurodevelopment of children at 7 years of age. The children born to mothers with a risk of gestational diabetes had higher birthweight and length and were more likely to be overweight at the age of 7. However, there was no difference in physical activity levels and neurodevelopmental outcomes between the two groups. The prevention of pre-pregnancy overweight should be emphasized.

Summary: The study compared the risk of adverse perinatal outcomes in women diagnosed with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) according to different diagnostic criteria and explored the effects of maternal overweight/obesity and ethnicity. The results showed that compared to women without GDM, those diagnosed by any of the three criteria had an increased risk of delivering large-for-gestational-age infants. The group identified by the WHO-2013 and Norwegian-2017 criteria but not diagnosed by WHO-1999 criteria had an additional increased risk of cesarean section and operative vaginal delivery. The risk of adverse outcomes was also higher in GDM women regardless of their weight status, and glucose values were associated with birthweight in all ethnic groups.
