Summary: This systematic review and meta-analysis examined the association between multivitamin use and the risk of preeclampsia. The results showed very weak evidence suggesting that multivitamin use might reduce the risk of preeclampsia. However, due to limited and low-quality studies, further large-scale randomized controlled trials are needed to confirm these findings. Therefore, no final conclusions can be drawn regarding the preventive effect of multivitamin use in relation to preeclampsia based on the results of this review.

Summary: This study found that hypothyroxinemia during pregnancy was associated with an increased risk of preeclampsia-eclampsia, especially in women with persistent hypothyroxinemia in early pregnancy. However, there was no significant association between hypothyroxinemia and gestational hypertension.

Summary: Preeclampsia and gestational hypertensive disorders are common complications of pregnancy with long-term consequences. This study developed a risk score using machine learning to screen for GHD early. It confirmed that high BMI is a risk factor for GHD and explored the relationship between GHD and genetically constructed anthropometric measures and biomarkers.

Summary: Hypertension is a significant risk factor for cardiovascular disease in the US, and its prevalence during pregnancy has almost doubled in the past decade. High blood pressure during pregnancy is concerning due to increased risks of maternal and fetal complications and long-term cardiovascular risks. Identifying chronic hypertension during pregnancy can provide insights into cardiovascular disease risk and offer opportunities for risk reduction. Equitable healthcare interventions during the peripartum period can have a significant impact on preventing chronic hypertension and reducing lifetime cardiovascular disease risk.

Summary: This population-based study aimed to assess the gestational age-specific incidence rates and risk factors for severe preeclampsia, hemolysis, elevated liver enzymes, and low platelet count syndrome, as well as eclampsia. The results showed different rates and risk factors for these severe pregnancy complications based on gestational age. Younger maternal age was associated with an increased risk for eclampsia and term-onset severe preeclampsia, while older mothers had elevated risks for severe preeclampsia and hemolysis, elevated liver enzymes, and low platelet count syndrome.

Summary: This article reports a case of a late-stage tubal ectopic pregnancy complicated by severe pre-eclampsia. Surgery confirmed that the reason for the pregnancy progressing to late stage may be the abnormally thickened tubal wall, and the special attachment site of the placenta reduced the risk of rupture. The detection of a crescent-shaped placenta on imaging aids in the accurate diagnosis and distinguishing between abdominal and tubal pregnancy. Women with advanced ectopic pregnancy are more likely to develop pre-eclampsia and have poorer maternal-fetal outcomes.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the association between interpregnancy body mass index (BMI) change and subsequent hypertensive disorders in pregnancy. The results showed that compared to women with interpregnancy BMI change within +/- 2 kg/m(2), women with interpregnancy BMI gain greater than 2 kg/m(2) had a higher risk of developing hypertensive disorders. Furthermore, interpregnancy BMI loss greater than 2 kg/m(2) was not associated with increased odds of hypertensive disorders.

Summary: Intracranial hemorrhage (ICH) is a rare but devastating complication of preeclampsia. This study found that risk factors for ICH in preeclamptic women include HELLP syndrome, multiparity, nausea/vomiting, and lower educational attainment. The incidence of caesarean birth and neonatal mortality were higher among preeclamptic women with ICH.

Summary: This case-control study compared risk factors associated with posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome (PRES) and eclampsia in hypertensive pregnant women. The study found that 22.5% of hypertensive pregnant women presenting with seizures had PRES, and women with PRES had higher blood pressure at admission compared to those with eclampsia. PRES and eclampsia may occur through a similar pathophysiological mechanism, resulting in neurological complications of preeclampsia.

Summary: This study evaluates the one-year hemodynamic performance of a sutureless aortic valve compared to a standard aortic valve. The results show that the sutureless valve maintains stable hemodynamic performance for one year, similar to the stented valve. The sutureless valve is a reliable and essential technology for treating aortic valve disease.

Summary: The study summarized the early procedural and clinical outcomes of the TRICENTO system for treating severe tricuspid regurgitation. The results showed that the system had a high technical success rate and improved clinical symptoms in the treated patients. There was also a significant decrease in right ventricular volume. However, improvements in the prosthesis design and patient eligibility criteria are needed.

Summary: Early results from the ESPOIR Trial suggest that decellularized pulmonary homografts (DPH) have excellent performance in pulmonary valve replacement. A 5-year analysis of ESPOIR Trial patients showed low rates of adverse events and better freedom from explantation compared to cryopreserved homografts (CH) patients.

Summary: This study aimed to assess the factors associated with permanent pacemaker implantation (PPI) in two different methods of aortic valve replacement. The results showed that sutureless aortic valve replacement (Su-AVR) had a higher PPI rate compared to stented sutured bioprosthesis (SAVR), especially in the case of size XL. The combination of preoperative conduction disorders and size XL may increase the probability of early PPI in Su-AVR.

Summary: The objective of this study was to investigate the need for postoperative permanent pacemaker implantation (PPI) following sutureless and rapid-deployment aortic valve replacement (SuRD-AVR). The study retrospectively analyzed a large multicenter international registry (SURD-IR) from 2008 to 2019. The results showed a significant decrease in the PPI rate over time in the Su cohort, while the RD cohort showed no significant differences in PPI rate between the two time periods.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the impact of sex on treatment outcomes in patients with significant tricuspid regurgitation (TR) undergoing transcatheter tricuspid valve intervention (TTVI). The results showed no significant differences between women and men in terms of 1-year survival, heart failure hospitalization, functional status, and severity of TR after TTVI. Multivariable Cox-regression analysis with inverse probability of treatment weighting (IPTW) demonstrated that TTVI was associated with improved 1-year survival compared to medical therapy alone in both women and men.

Summary: This study reports the midterm results of adult patients receiving decellularized aortic homografts (DAH) for aortic valve replacement. No cases of stenosis were observed, and only 4 cases had moderate aortic regurgitation without the need for reintervention. Summary: This study provides an in-depth insight into the outcomes of the Ross procedure, showing that patients operated on by high-volume surgeons have lower odds of serious adverse events compared to those operated on by low-volume surgeons. It also suggests that supporting the autograft can reduce the risk of reintervention in patients with preoperative aortic regurgitation.
