Summary: This study found that a higher body fat percentage is associated with hypertension, even in non-obese individuals. Reducing both FMI and FFMI may play an important role in preventing hypertension. However, the relationship between FFMI and hypertension in the lowest FMI group might be weak for men.

Summary: This study examined the association between body composition (fat mass and lean body mass) and diabetes risk. The results showed that in women, an increase in lean body mass reduced the risk of diabetes, while an increase in fat mass increased the risk. In men, the relationship between body composition and diabetes risk was non-linear. It is recommended that Asian men maintain a lean body mass above 45.4 kg and a fat mass around 13.76 kg to reduce the risk of diabetes.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the association between general and central obesity, and their changes with risk of knee osteoarthritis (OA) using retrospective cohort data collected from the Korean National Health Insurance Service. The study found that both general and central obesity were associated with an increased risk of knee OA, and the risk was highest when the two types of obesity coexisted. Changes in obesity status have been confirmed to alter the risk of knee OA.

Summary: The study found that serum LAR and usCRP levels are associated with pain intensity in women with hip and/or knee OA, independently of radiographic structural severity, highlighting the role of adipose tissue dysfunction and meta-inflammation in pain experience in the female population. No correlation between biomarkers and pain was found in men.

Summary: Leptin secretion is sensitive to negative energy intake imbalance, influencing body weight and fat mass as a pro-homeostasis factor, yet long-term exposure to elevated leptin levels may lead to mental/behavioral disorders related to the feeding and reward systems.

Summary: This study investigates the association between the number of chronic pain sites and the risk of dementia and its subtypes. The findings suggest that a greater number of chronic pain sites is associated with an increased risk of all-cause dementia and Alzheimer's disease, but not vascular and frontotemporal dementia.

Summary: This study found that excessive visceral adipose tissue is associated with increased secretion of pro-inflammatory molecules, leading to systemic inflammation and obesity-related metabolic disturbances. The reduction in visceral adipose tissue is associated with improvements in various inflammatory and adiposity markers, especially insulin, c-peptide, and PAI-1 levels, which may contribute to a decrease in cardiometabolic disturbances observed in obesity.

Summary: This study compared MRI-detected structural abnormalities in patients with symptomatic midfoot osteoarthritis, patients with persistent midfoot pain, and asymptomatic controls. The findings suggest a prevalence of osteoarthritis in individuals with persistent midfoot pain but no signs of OA on radiography, particularly in specific joints. However, the MRI abnormalities were not strongly associated with pain or foot-related disability.

Summary: This study explores the factors influencing the prescribing of disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drugs (DMARDs) for people with inflammatory arthritis. The findings suggest that patients' characteristics, preferences, symptoms, and negative responses to medication, as well as healthcare providers' knowledge, experience, habits, and subjective judgments, play a significant role in prescribing behavior. Other factors, such as consultation time constraints and complexity of medication funding arrangements, also impact prescribing decisions. The study highlights the importance of patient education on medication options and the value of colleagues' opinions and support in informing prescribing decisions.

Summary: This systematic review and meta-analysis evaluated the efficacy and safety of colchicine for the treatment of osteoarthritis (OA). The study found that colchicine did not show significant benefits in reducing pain and improving physical function compared to placebo or other active comparators. The results suggest that future trials should focus on subgroups of OA patients with inflammation and mineralization who might benefit from colchicine.

Summary: This study aimed to determine the COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy rates among inflammatory arthritis patients and identify factors associated with changing vaccine hesitancy over time. The findings showed that beliefs about medication harm and overuse before the pandemic were associated with COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy. Furthermore, individuals who did not seek vaccine information from healthcare professionals were more likely to develop vaccine hesitancy during the pandemic.

Summary: The study aimed to determine the final scale structure and measurement properties of the GCA patient reported outcome (GCA-PRO) in assessing the impact of GCA on health-related quality of life (HRQoL). It found that the final GCA-PRO is a 30-item, four-domain scale with robust evidence of validity and reliability in measuring HRQoL in people with GCA.
