Summary: A nanocomposite delivery system was developed for the delivery of curcumin and resveratrol to treat spinal cord injury in a rat model. The system showed sustained release of both drugs and was non-toxic to PC-12 cells. In vivo studies demonstrated that co-administration of curcumin and resveratrol had significantly higher healing activity compared to other groups, and the delivery system downregulated the expression profile of NF-kB and TNF-a genes.

Summary: A drug delivery system that readily penetrates the blood spinal cord barrier and targets spinal cord injury (SCI) is developed by using microglia-derived cell membranes to construct biomimetic polylactic-co-glycolic acid and resveratrol (PLGA-RSV) nanoparticles (PR@MM). In SCI, the PR@MM has the ability to scavenge reactive oxygen species and exerts anti-inflammatory effects, which ultimately promotes the recovery of locomotory function after SCI.

Summary: This study systematically analyzed the experimental treatments and their mechanisms for reducing blood spinal cord barrier (BSCB) injury in the early stage of traumatic spinal cord injury (t-SCI). BMSC-Exos, which inhibit matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) expression, are currently the most effective therapeutic modality for alleviating BSCB damage. In addition, the regulation of MMPs, the Akt pathway, and the ER stress pathway play important roles in alleviating BSCB injury.

Summary: The excess of free radicals leads to various imbalances in the body, causing premature aging, degradation of internal structures, and the development of pathologies that increase the risk of premature death. This study evaluates the physical, chemical, pharmacotechnical, and antioxidant activity of newly achieved capsule formulations. Two formulations, F1(a.i)(.) and F2(a.i.), containing different active ingredients in specific ratios, were tested. The results showed that the F2(c.c)(.) formulation had the strongest antioxidant capacity, confirming the suitable formulation and selection of active ingredients and excipients for developing effective antioxidant supplements for the human body.

Summary: Spinal cord injury (SCI) is a devastating condition that causes permanent motor and sensory deficits. Researchers have been studying potential therapeutic strategies to mitigate the neuro-inflammatory response following injury. Recent studies have shown that exosomes-derived MSCs (MSC-EXOs) have promising effects as an innovative therapy for SCI patients.

Summary: This study evaluated the antioxidant response in phrenic motoneurons following C2 spinal cord lateral hemi-section in rats, and found that the AMPK-Nrf2 signaling pathway plays a significant role in the oxidative stress response after high SCI. Harnessing this pathway could improve the antioxidant response and help in improving diaphragm activity in patients with high SCI.

Summary: This study aimed to assess the efficacy of thoracic segmental artery occlusion as a method of spinal cord protection during aortic aneurysm surgery. The results showed that acute priming of the spinal cord by occluding the segmental arteries before aortic crossclamp significantly reduced the risk of paraplegia and improved neurological outcomes. Histopathology and motor-evoked potentials also supported the protective effect of priming. These findings suggest that modifying the spinal cord vasculature through priming can effectively protect against ischemic injury in aortic aneurysm surgery.

Summary: Spinal cord injury (SCI) is a severe and disabling injury that affects the central nervous system, leading to impaired sensory and motor function. Pathological processes, such as oxidative stress, inflammation, apoptosis, and glial scarring, worsen the condition. Resveratrol, a natural polyphenol, has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties and has shown potential as a therapeutic drug for various diseases, including nerve damage. Preclinical studies have suggested that resveratrol activates signaling pathways related to SCI pathology, making it a potential treatment for SCI. This review summarizes the role of resveratrol in promoting nerve function recovery by regulating oxidative stress, inflammation, apoptosis, and glial scar formation in SCI, as well as the current research trends and limitations in resveratrol studies. It provides a foundation for further understanding the molecular mechanisms of SCI and the development of therapeutic options.

Summary: This study investigated the differences in exosomal microRNA-127-5p expression profiles between hAT-MSCs and hSF-MSCs during chondrogenesis for cartilage regeneration treatment. Differentiation of hAT-MSCs, hSF-MSCs, and hfCCs was induced, and staining was performed to detect chondrogenic differentiation. Exosomes from differentiated cells were isolated, and expression of microRNA-127-5p was measured by qRT-PCR. Higher levels of microRNA-127-5p expression were found in hAT-MSCs exosomes compared to hSF-MSCs, suggesting hAT-MSCs are better sources for stimulating chondrogenesis and regenerative therapy of cartilage-related pathologies. hAT-MSCs exosomes are rich in microRNA-127-5p and can be a significant candidate for cartilage regeneration treatments.
