Summary: The additive-free copper(I)-bromide-mediated radical cyclization reactions of alpha,alpha-dibromo beta-iminoesters successfully enabled the synthesis of a series of 5- or 6-brominated 2-aryl-1H-indole-3-carboxylates in moderate to good yields. Mechanistic study revealed the bromine atom originated from the substrates and the bromination might be related to a 3-bromo-3H indole intermediate.

Summary: Deoxyhalogenation of aryl aldehydes, ketones, carboxylic acids, and esters has been achieved by using a suitable metal halide Lewis acid as a carbonyl activator and halogen carrier, in combination with borane-ammonia as the reductant. Selectivity is achieved by matching the stability of the carbocation intermediate with the effective acidity of the Lewis acid. Substituents and substitution patterns significantly influence the choice of solvent/Lewis acid combination. Logical combinations of these factors have also been applied for the regioselective conversion of alcohols to alkyl halides.

Summary: We present a greener synthetic route for the synthesis of medicinally and industrially valuable quinoline scaffolds, eliminating harsh reaction conditions, low productivity, and unstable substrates associated with classical methods. This route involves the acceptorless dehydrogenative annulation of readily available alcohols in basic media using an engineered nitrogen-rich hollow-spherical microporous polymer (MOP-TA) without any metal support. The scalability and green matrices of this affordable and sustainable route are supported by various spectroscopic and microscopic techniques.

Summary: An environmentally friendly approach for constructing the CAC bond using catalyst- and solvent-free conditions was developed. This method involves the efficient coupling of 2-methyl quinazolinones with 3-(trifluoroacetyl)coumarins to produce quinazolinone derivatives with excellent yields (up to 90%). The biological activities of these derivatives against various fungal strains were investigated, showing promising fungicidal activities for most of the target products, with compound 3 cl exhibiting 95% fungicidal activity against R. solani with an EC50 value of 10.6 lg/mL.

Summary: A convenient method for synthesizing aryl-containing trisubstituted alkenes through direct alkylation of alkenes was successfully achieved under solvent-free and catalyst-free conditions. The absence of solvents was found to be crucial in initiating this sequence. Moreover, this protocol stands out due to its minimal waste production and straightforward operation. The radical capture experiment provided evidence for an ionic reaction mechanism.

Summary: Depolymerization of condensation polymers often requires solvents and homogeneous catalysts, but suffer from poor interfacial contact with solid plastics. This study discovers a spontaneous heterogeneous catalyst layer on the surface of polyethylene terephthalate during the homogeneous catalytic depolymerization process, and demonstrates that the construction of solid-plastic interfaces enables solvent-free depolymerization at relatively low temperatures. The introduction of trace amounts of zinc by electrostatic adsorption is sufficient for catalyzing the depolymerization. The concept of plastic-catalyst contact mass interfacial catalysis could inspire new approaches to address plastic waste problems.

Summary: A simple and practical procedure for synthesizing 2-iodoanilines has been developed, with highly regioselective products obtained in satisfactory to good yields using inexpensive halogen donors. Oxygen was found to be necessary for the transformation, and control experiments suggested a radical pathway involved. The procedure is operationally scalable and exhibits high functional-group tolerance.

Summary: A catalyst- and additive-free sunlight-induced strategy for the autoxidation of a wide range of aldehydes to carboxylic acids is described. This method utilizes air as the source of oxygen and sunlight as the light source, offering green, highly atom-efficient, and low-cost synthesis. The reaction can be easily scaled up and can proceed smoothly even at lower temperature and in natural light.

Summary: The study developed a unified metal-free photooxidative platform for the cleavage of C-heteroatom bonds, using AQDAB complex as the photocatalyst to induce the oxidation process. This method allows for chemoselective cleavage of C-N, C-S, and C-Se bonds, broadening the potential applications of oxidation in synthetic chemistry. It established a photooxidation system for formal carbonylation of C-heteroatom (N, S, Se) bonds.

Summary: A solvent-free, rapid, and operationally simple method for chlorinating pyrazoles with trichloroisocyanuric acid to obtain 4-chloropyrazole derivatives is presented. This high-yielding protocol eliminates the need for tedious column chromatography and reduces solvent consumption. Mechanistic studies suggest an electrophilic aromatic substitution mechanism. The system also demonstrates good green chemistry metrics.
