Summary: The study compared the efficacy and safety of endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty (ESG) with laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG) and laparoscopic greater curve plication (LGCP) over 2 years. Results showed that although ESG had a slightly lower weight loss rate compared to other techniques, it displayed better safety profile and shorter hospital stay.

Summary: The study found that laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy can be successfully performed in patients with complex abdominal wall hernias and severe obesity, with outcomes similar to typical patients undergoing LSG. At follow-up, there was a significant decrease in mean BMI. Further research with larger cohorts is needed to better understand complication rates and long-term outcomes in this population.

Summary: Peer ratings for surgical skill varied for laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy but did not have a significant impact on overall complication rates. Top rated surgeons had lower rates of specific surgical complications, including postoperative obstruction, hemorrhage, and reoperation; however, severe morbidity remained extremely low among all surgeons. Surgeons with higher skill ratings also showed faster operating times and higher annual case volumes for both sleeve gastrectomy and any bariatric procedure.

Summary: Sleeve gastrectomy is the most common weight loss surgery for severe obesity, but complications like leakages and strictures can occur. Gastric twist is a rare complication, which is a functional obstruction of the gastric remnant likely caused by technical mistakes. Endoscopy is the first choice for diagnosis and treatment, but surgery is necessary if endoscopy fails.

Summary: This study examined the outcomes and subjective experience of patients who underwent long-term laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG). The results showed that LSG was associated with satisfactory weight and health outcomes in the long term, although weight regain was notable.

Summary: Among patients with severe obesity undergoing SG and RYGB, significantly more weight loss was observed at 5 years compared to nonsurgical patients. Weight regain was common after surgery, but regain to within 5% of baseline was rare.

Summary: This study assessed the risk factors for complications after laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy. The results showed that smoking and hypercholesterolemia were independent risk factors for early complications, while smoking, peptic ulcer diseases, and hiatal hernia were independent predictors of late complications.

Summary: This study aimed to identify the risk factors of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) symptoms after laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG). The study found that 16.1% of patients developed de novo GERD symptoms after LSG, and these symptoms were significantly associated with older age and lower BMI.

Summary: This study investigated the changes in fecal short chain fatty acids (SCFAs) and their association with metabolic benefits after sleeve gastrectomy (SG). The results demonstrated that pre-surgery SCFAs may modify the therapeutic effects of SG, with fecal hexanoate and butyrate being potential modifiers impacting the metabolic benefits.

Summary: This observational study reports the efficacy and safety of endoscopic full-thickness resection combined with purse-string sutures in treating postoperative fistula after laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy. The results showed that this innovative endoscopic strategy is safe, effective, and allows early oral feeding.

Summary: This study investigated the safety and efficacy of revisional endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty (R-ESG) in a large international cohort of patients who experienced weight regain after laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG). The results showed that R-ESG is a safe and effective method for facilitating weight loss in patients with weight recidivism after LSG, with sustained results at 1 year.

Summary: This study evaluated the effects of parental history and age at operation on adolescents who underwent LSG. The results showed that parental history of bariatric surgery was associated with higher weight at the time of operation, but there was no difference in postoperative weight loss. LSG was effective for weight loss in adolescents, regardless of age.

Summary: This study aimed to examine the prevalence of Helicobacter pylori (HP) in specimens of sleeve gastrectomy (SG), and to investigate the association between HP and early complications as well as the impact of preoperative HP eradication on outcomes. The results showed that the presence of HP did not seem to affect the early outcomes of SG, and HP eradication did not change the early postoperative course.

Summary: The study found that baseline serum levels of sclerostin are correlated with anthropometric measures of obesity and insulin resistance, particularly with peripheral insulin sensitivity. This suggests a close association between serum sclerostin and glycemic improvements after bariatric surgery.
