Summary: This study compared postoperative outcomes after transabdominal preperitoneal (TAPP) repair between patients with symptomatic bilateral hernia (SBH) and patients with one symptomatic hernia and an asymptomatic contralateral hernia (ACH). The results showed no significant differences in morbidity and recurrence rate between the two groups, and both groups experienced significant improvement in quality of life post-surgery.

Summary: This study found that experienced laparoscopists performing rTAPP require 43 procedures to achieve 90% proficiency and significantly reduce operative time. During the learning curve, there was a decrease in operative time and occurrence of complications compared to after the learning curve.

Summary: Synthetic mesh is commonly used for inguinal hernia repair, and it has been found that the mesh contracts after surgery regardless of the material used. This study developed a method for indirectly measuring the postoperative mesh area and found that the mesh shrinks over time without affecting patient outcomes.

Summary: This study analyzed a surgeon's learning curve for robot-assisted transabdominal preperitoneal inguinal hernia repair, finding that operative times and surgical site event rates decreased gradually after completing 138 procedures. Previous laparoscopic experience, robotic team efficiency, and surgical knowledge are important factors to consider for a surgeon's learning curve.

Summary: This study assessed the efficacy of mesh fixation technique in robot-assisted transabdominal preperitoneal inguinal hernia repair (R-TAPP). The results showed that the 3-point mesh fixation technique had a low recurrence rate and a low incidence of postoperative pain and chronic pain.

Summary: This study investigated the differences in hernia recurrence and chronic postoperative inguinal pain (CPIP) in laparoscopic transabdominal preperitoneal (TAPP) inguinal hernia repair with and without mesh fixation. The results showed that the current evidence is very uncertain and mesh fixation may have little to no effect on hernia recurrence and chronic postoperative inguinal pain.

Summary: This study compared the fixation and non-fixation of the mesh in laparoscopic transabdominal preperitoneal (TAPP) inguinal hernia repair. The current evidence is very uncertain, suggesting that mesh fixation may have little to no effect on hernia recurrence and chronic postoperative inguinal pain.

Summary: In this case report, a method for managing an injured iliac vein during TEP repair of inguinal hernia was described, involving adjustments in preperitoneal pressure and positive end expiratory pressure (PEEP). This technique was used to achieve a balance between excessive bleeding and potential CO2 embolism, without the need for laparotomy.

Summary: Although TAPP LIHR is increasingly important in hernia management, it has a long learning curve. This study evaluates the efficacy of a 3D printed TAPP LIHR simulator for preoperative skill assessment. Results show that the checklist score and time for TAPP LIHR are correlated with the number of procedures performed.

Summary: This study compared the clinical outcomes and safety of laparoscopic TEP and TAPP for inguinal hernia repair. The results showed that TAPP had shorter operative time but higher postoperative pain compared to TEP. TEP was superior in terms of not breaching the peritoneum but required more skill. The choice of procedure should be individualized based on patient characteristics and surgeon preference.

Summary: This case report presents a rare complication of inguinal hernia repair, a large scrotal abscess caused by an inoculated scrotal hematoma. The abscess and ischemic ipsilateral testicle were excised through surgical exploration. Postoperative scrotal care pathways could help reduce and manage such complications.

Summary: Purpose: To investigate the impact of hernia sac transection on seroma occurrence after laparoscopic transabdominal pre-peritoneal hernia repair (TAPP), as well as explore the risk factors for seroma. Methods: A total of 330 male patients with indirect inguinal hernia who underwent TAPP repair from January 2020 to June 2021 were retrospectively enrolled. Patients were divided into two groups based on intraoperative hernia sac treatment: completely reduced sac group and transected sac group. Results: Among the 330 patients, 240 had hernia sac reduction and 90 had hernia sac transection. The incidence of seroma was 16.4% (54 patients). For patients with a hernia defect >= 3 cm and extension into the scrotum, the difference in seroma incidence between the two treatment groups was almost significant (P = 0.052). High body mass index, hernia sac >= 3 cm, extension of hernia into the scrotum, and longer operation time were significantly associated with postoperative seroma. Conclusion: The study revealed a high incidence of seroma (16.4%) after TAPP. Transection of the hernia sac may be preferable for patients with large and descended hernia sacs extending into the scrotum. Preventive measures should be taken for patients with high body mass index, hernia sac >= 3 cm, and a high risk of hernia extension into the scrotum.

Summary: A study was conducted on 77 patients undergoing laparoscopic Spigelian hernia repair, revealing that both TEP and TAPP approaches are equally safe and effective. Therefore, the choice of repair method should be based on surgeon experience, preference, and individual patient factors.
