Summary: This study found that levels of physical activity are positively associated with 25(OH)D levels and negatively associated with measures of adiposity. Higher levels of physical activity attenuate the association between adiposity and 25(OH)D.

Summary: This study examined the ability of different BMI metrics to assess adiposity changes in children and found that expressing BMI changes as a percentage of the 50th or 95th percentiles was more strongly associated with changes in body fatness compared to BMIz. Choosing the best BMI metric can help pediatricians better assess a child's change in body fatness over time.

Summary: The study analyzed the association between fruit intake and body mass index (BMI) and waist circumference (WC) in a representative sample of Peruvians. Fruit intake per serving was found to be negatively related to general body adiposity and central fat distribution. However, the consumption of fruit in the form of juices was positively associated with a significant increase in BMI and WC.

Summary: This study found that childhood adiposity is associated with earlier puberty onset, and body composition has a higher sensitivity than BMI and WC in predicting early puberty. Boys and girls with a high body fat percentage are more likely to experience early puberty compared to those with a low body fat percentage. However, boys and girls with a high fat-free mass/fat mass ratio have a decreased risk of early puberty. Additionally, high-level trajectories of rapid increase in body measurements are also significantly associated with a higher risk of early puberty.

Summary: The study examined the relationships between BMI, waist circumference, predicted body fat mass, and mortality in a Korean population. The results showed a J-shaped association between BMI and all-cause and cardiovascular mortality, with the lowest point at BMI = 25.0-29.9. It was also found that higher waist circumference and predicted body fat mass were positively associated with mortality, suggesting a need for re-evaluation of current overweight criteria for Asians.

Summary: This study evaluated the causal effects of adiposity traits including BMI, body fat percentage, waist circumference, and waist-to-hip ratio on hemorrhoids using Mendelian randomization. The results indicated a positive impact of these adiposity traits on hemorrhoids, supporting the importance of adiposity prevention in reducing the risk of hemorrhoids. The findings were robust and there was evidence against reverse causation, highlighting the potential significance of controlling adiposity for hemorrhoid prevention.

Summary: The study identified modifiable pre-birth or early-life factors associated with the timing of adiposity peak (AP) and adiposity rebound (AR) in children. Boys were less likely to have a late AP, but preterm born children had a higher risk of a late AP. Children breastfed for longer than 4 months were less likely to have an early AR, while children born to advanced-age mothers and who were born small for gestational age had a higher risk of early AR.

Summary: Productivity-adjusted life-years (PALYs) provide a novel approach to quantify the productivity burden of chronic conditions in the working population. This study estimated the productivity burden of knee osteoarthritis (KOA) among working-age Australians, resulting in significant productivity loss and an economic impact of 424 billion Australian dollars in lost GDP. Public health funding and scalable population-level strategies are needed for effective KOA prevention and support.

Summary: This study found that certain imaging biomarkers derived from MRI and ultrasonography are associated with chronic plantar heel pain. These biomarkers include calcaneal bone marrow lesions, plantar fascia signal and thickness, spurs, and echogenicity. Combining these imaging biomarkers, calcaneal bone marrow lesions and plantar fascia imaging biomarkers were independently associated with chronic plantar heel pain.

Summary: This study aimed to determine the feasibility of a randomized controlled trial (RCT) examining the effects of outdoor walking on knee osteoarthritis (KOA) clinical outcomes and MRI structural changes. The study found that a full-scale RCT is feasible based on acceptable adherence, retention, randomization, and safety, although recruitment challenges were identified. The significant symptomatic benefits demonstrate the clinical usefulness of a subsequent trial.

Summary: This study aimed to determine whether neuropathic pain is a feature of first metatarsophalangeal (MTP) joint osteoarthritis (OA). By comparing pain questionnaire results and related factors, the study found that a significant proportion of individuals with first MTP joint OA experience neuropathic pain, which may partly explain the suboptimal responses to commonly used treatments. Screening for neuropathic pain may be useful in selecting targeted interventions and improving clinical outcomes.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate whether systematic calibration improves the scoring proficiency of JAMRIS-SIJ and whether contrast-enhancement enhances its performance. The results showed that calibrated readers achieved greater reliability in scoring specific inflammatory and structural lesions. Sensitivity and reliability for scoring inflammatory lesions were higher on fluid-sensitive sequences compared to contrast-enhanced sequences. Therefore, systematic calibration should be implemented before using JAMRIS-SIJ in clinical trials, and it is unlikely that contrast-enhanced MRI will improve the performance of this method.
