Summary: The study aimed to understand the relative value of different approaches in assessing salivary gland involvement in pSS. The results showed that histopathology, salivary flow, and ultrasonography assess different constructs of salivary gland involvement and have low correlations. Therefore, these three modalities are complementary and cannot directly replace each other in the diagnosis of pSS.

Summary: Labial salivary gland biopsy is an efficient and minimally invasive diagnostic method for neuronal intranuclear inclusion disease (NIID), offering rapid healing and excellent sensitivity. Compared to skin biopsies, lip gland biopsies result in minimal scarring and postoperative complications.

Summary: This study analyzed the findings of labial minor salivary gland biopsy (MSGB) in a large sicca cohort and examined their associations with Sjogren's syndrome (SS)-associated markers, phenotypic characteristics, and systemic manifestations. The study also explored the ability of MSGB to identify SS patients among those with pre-diagnosed fibromyalgia (FM). The results showed that MSGB plays a key role in the classification and diagnosis of SS and provides important information about SS phenotype and systemic manifestations. Furthermore, MSGB can help differentiate FM patients from subclinical SS patients with primarily chronic pain.

Summary: This study demonstrates that adding immunohistochemical staining with CD45, CD3, and CD20 to labial minor salivary gland biopsies can improve the diagnostic accuracy for Sjogren's syndrome, especially when the hematoxylin and eosin staining result is inconclusive. Patients without SjS showed no significant lymphocyte infiltrate in their biopsies.

Summary: The study investigated the predictive value of combined B-mode ultrasonography (US) and shear-wave elastography (SWE) examination on labial salivary gland biopsy (LSGB) results, and found that a novel matrix risk model based on total US scores and total SWE values can stratify patients into different risk groups for positive LSGB. This model can help rheumatologists make shared decisions with suspected Sjogren's syndrome patients on whether the invasive procedure of LSGB should be performed.

Summary: This study evaluated the role of minor salivary gland biopsy histology in diagnosing primary SS-associated non-Hodgkin B-cell lymphoma. The results showed that mSGB histology enabled NHL diagnosis in half of the patients with suspected NHL, with 95.8% of cases identified as MALT lymphomas.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate labial minor salivary glands in IPF patients to rule out SS, and the results showed that LMSGs biopsy is critical for diagnosing SS in patients with IPF and sicca symptoms.

Summary: This study evaluates the role of adjuvant radiotherapy (ART) in patients with node-negative parotid gland cancer. The results show that ART significantly improves locoregional control and progression-free survival in patients with high-grade histology. It also improves locoregional control in patients with low-to-intermediate grade histology. Therefore, ART is important for disease control and survival in node-negative parotid gland cancer patients with high-grade histology.

Summary: A significant proportion of patients with occult Sjogren Syndrome were found in the study by performing Minor Salivary Gland Biopsy (MSG) and Dry Eye Tests (DET) on patients with Interstitial Pneumonia with Autoimmune Features (IPAF). Some patients diagnosed with SS did not report dry eyes or dry mouth symptoms.

Summary: The study demonstrates the presence of potential stem cells with self-renewal and differentiation capabilities in single cells derived from murine parotid gland organoids. By developing a murine model, it can provide insights into the radiation response of stem cells, offering a useful tool for further mechanistic studies in this area.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the diagnostic value of salivary gland ultrasound (SGUS) for secondary Sjogren's syndrome (sSS) in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), and investigate the relationship between SGUS findings and clinical/laboratory characteristics of SLE patients. The results showed that SGUS had a high sensitivity but low specificity in diagnosing sSS. Patients with higher SGUS scores were more likely to have symptoms of sicca, positive anti-Ro and anti-La antibodies, and poorer psychological stress.

Summary: The study aimed to explore the role of LMSG focus score (FS) in stratifying SS patients, with findings identifying FS, cryoglobulinemia, and salivary gland enlargement (SGE) as independent lymphoma-associated risk factors. Patients with FS >= 4 had a shorter time interval to lymphoma diagnosis and were more likely to develop B cell origin manifestations and lymphoma. These results suggest that FS evaluated at the time of SS diagnosis may serve as a predictive biomarker for early diagnosis of SS-associated lymphomas.

Summary: This study investigates the presence of misfolded alpha-Synuclein in minor salivary gland biopsies and its correlation with substantia nigra pars compacta damage, measured using magnetic resonance imaging, in patients with isolated rapid eye movement sleep behavior disorder (iRBD) and Parkinson's disease (PD). The study finds that the detection of alpha-Synuclein in minor salivary gland biopsies lacks sensitivity and specificity, and does not correlate with SNc damage, indicating it cannot be used as a predictive or effective biomarker for PD.
