The main aim of this study is to examine the concurrent and longitudinal effects of perceived affection of mothers and fathers separately on the self-reported symptoms of children's depression. Data were obtained from a 3-wave study of 535 families with children (41.3% boys) aged 9-15 years of age. Structural equation models were performed to test different models. Significant effects of mothers' and fathers' affection on depression symptomatology over the three years were found. The longitudinal effects of parental warmth on the child's depression symptoms were mediated over time by the previous levels of the mother's and father's warmth. The presence of parental warmth can lessen the severity of depression symptoms, especially when paternal and maternal warmth are applied consistently over a long period of time. These results were invariant across the child's sex. Treatments for childhood depression should take place over extended periods of time including both fathers and mothers. An analysis of the comorbidity between children's depression and aggression symptoms: self-esteem and oppositional misbehavior as mediators

Ma Victoria del Barrio Gandara, Francisco Pablo Holgado-Tello, Miguel Angel Carrasco, Maria J. Gonzalez-Calderon

Summary: Children with dysphoria symptoms are more likely to have aggression problems, but these problems can be significantly reduced when considering factors such as self-esteem and oppositional misbehavior. This study examined the mediating effect of self-esteem and oppositional misbehavior on the relationship between dysphoria and aggression in a sample of 1774 school children. The results showed that oppositional misbehavior was the strongest mediator, and the mediating model was consistent across gender.

Development of Flow State Self-Regulation Skills and Coping With Musical Performance Anxiety: Design and Evaluation of an Electronically Implemented Psychological Program

Laura Moral-Bofill, Andres Lopez de la Llave, Ma Carmen Perez-Llantada, Francisco Pablo Holgado-Tello

Summary: Positive Psychology has focused on studying emotions and how they impact people's health, performance, and overall life satisfaction. Flow theory provides a framework for promoting flow experiences, which are characterized by high concentration and enjoyment. This study implemented an electronic intervention program for performing musicians to develop self-regulation skills and trigger flow states while coping with music performance anxiety. Results showed significant improvements in flow state, sense of control, and decreased music performance anxiety and self-consciousness in the intervention group compared to the control group. The relationship between flow and anxiety in performance situations is further discussed in relation to worry and the feeling of lack of control.

Network Analysis of Internalizing and Externalizing Symptoms in Children and Adolescents

Milagros Ocalin Sanchez-Hernandez, Francisco Pablo Holgado-Tello, Miguel A. Carrasco

Summary: This study examines the dynamics of symptoms of different internalizing, externalizing, and personal-contextual problems using network analysis. The results show that the studied syndromes are activated through dynamics of symptoms that are closely related to each other and act as intermediaries of potential psychopathological problems in children and adolescents. The findings suggest the importance of exploring attribute dynamics and symptomatic comorbidity.
