Mutations in the amyloid precursor protein (APP) are responsible for the formation of amyloid- peptides. These peptides play a role in Alzheimer's and other dementia-related diseases. The cargo binding domain of the kinesin-1 light chain motor protein (KLC1) may be responsible for transporting APP either directly or via interaction with C-jun N-terminal kinase-interacting protein 1 (JIP1). However, to date there has been no direct experimental or computational assessment of such binding at the atomistic level. We used molecular dynamics and free energy estimations to gauge the affinity for the binary complexes of KLC1, APP, and JIP1. We find that all binary complexes (KLC1:APP, KLC1:JIP1, and APP:JIP1) contain conformations with favorable binding free energies. For KLC1:APP the inclusion of approximate entropies reduces the favorability. This is likely due to the flexibility of the 42-residue APP protein. In all cases we analyze atomistic/residue driving forces for favorable interactions. Proteins 2017; 85:221-234. (c) 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.

The Economic Footprint of Interventional Radiology in the United States: Implications for Systems Development

Soleil S. Shah, Lakshika Tennakoon, Edward O'Beirne, Kristan L. Staudenmayer, Nishita Kothary

Summary: Interventional radiology plays a significant role in inpatient care in the United States, with around 10% of hospitalized patients receiving such services. Patients requiring interventional radiology are typically older, sicker, and account for a large portion of healthcare costs.

COVID-19 vaccine challenges: What have we learned so far and what remains to be done?

Rebecca Forman, Soleil Shah, Patrick Jeurissen, Mark Jit, Elias Mossialos

Summary: The development and distribution of a safe and effective SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) vaccine has attracted global interest. Despite emergency use authorization for several vaccine candidates within a year of the pandemic, there are still significant policy challenges that require a collaborative global response.

Factors influencing care-seeking behaviour for mental illness in India: a situational analysis in Tamil Nadu

Anant Jani, Sindhu Ravishankar, Naresh Kumar, J. Vimitha, Soleil Shah, Anees Pari, C. Ramasubramaniam

Summary: This qualitative study in Tamil Nadu, India, identified three key areas influencing care-seeking behavior for mental illness: views on causes of mental illness, stigma and discrimination, and broader factors influencing decision-making. These contextual factors can be used to design and implement approaches to address treatment gaps in India.

Strengthening the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation's Approach to Constructing Alternative Payment Models

Joseph T. T. Kannarkat, Soleil Shah, Natasha Parekh, Francis J. J. Crosson

Summary: The Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation (CMMI) aims to develop evidence-based alternative payment models (APM) to enhance healthcare quality and decrease costs, but its achievement in these goals has been inconsistent. In October 2021, CMMI released its Innovation Strategy Refresh to address challenges in payment models and propose new strategies. However, there are still unresolved issues, including engaging physicians and patients in APMs, minimizing conflicting incentives, reducing selection bias, and transitioning from fee-for-service framework. This article offers guidance and solutions to improve CMMI's vision and tackle these challenges.

Summary: This prospective study conducted in a K-8 school over a 22-week period demonstrates that secondary transmission of COVID-19 can be limited with comprehensive preventive measures. Surveillance testing and adherence to key mitigation measures, such as masking, were found to be effective in preventing in-school transmission.
