Summary: This work presents a simple and cost-effective method of synthesizing gallic acid-based silver nanoparticles for the detection of soil pollutants. The nanoparticles were characterized using various techniques and used as a colorimetric sensor for thiourea (TU) and thiophenol (TP) in real soil samples. The colorimetric detection showed a good linear relationship and a low limit of detection. A smartphone application was also utilized to track color intensity changes. The synthesized nanoparticles demonstrated excellent selectivity and were validated using HPLC.

Summary: UV-curable coatings mainly consist of vinyl resin, active thinner, and photoinitiator. The viscosity and film hardness of vinyl star polyester were found to increase with the hydroxyl function of small molecular polyols. The inclusion of polyether polyol N210 in the reaction system reduced the resin viscosity and improved the film hardness and impact toughness.

Summary: This paper focuses on the necessity of dual modification of various starches, which is classified into homogeneous dual modification and heterogeneous dual modification. The classification, synthesis, properties, and applications of dually modified starches are discussed. Parameters such as the order of reactions, the reaction conditions, the medium of reaction, and the botanical sources of the various starches are important in dual modifications.

Summary: A novel phosphaphenanthren-containing flame-retardant plasticizer (APGOL) derived from l-lactic acid was synthesized and characterized in this study. The APGOL showed enhanced flame retardancy and accelerated crystallization rate of PLA, resulting in higher tensile strength and modulus. This research provides a reference for the development of renewable flame-retardant plasticizers.

Summary: A family of 29 copper nanoclusters with precise structures has been prepared, showing different surface properties but the same Cu-13 kernel. These clusters exhibit distinct optical profiles and catalytic performance, indicating the importance of surface structure in shaping the behaviors of copper nanomolecules. This work not only exemplifies the efficiency of surface engineering for controlling properties of well-defined copper nanoclusters but also provides a new family of Cu materials with controlled surface motifs.

Summary: The design, synthesis, and characterization of a series of aryl functionalized thienyltriazine containing star molecules were reported. The results indicate that changing the nature of the peripheral aryl unit helps to efficiently tune the optical properties of the resulting system. A structure-property relationship has been established.

Summary: Despite their rarity, inherently chiral macrocyclic compounds have interesting stereochemistry and potential applications in (supramolecular) chemistry and chiroptical materials. In this study, a fragment coupling method was used to construct ABAC- and ABCD-type inherently chiral heteracalix[4]aromatics. The synthesis involved key steps of SNAr CuI-catalyzed Ullmann coupling and aliphatic nucleophilic substitution reactions using readily available starting materials. Postmacrocyclization functionalization reactions allowed the production of various amino-substituted and (benzo[d])imidazole-2-(thi)one-bearing heteracalix[4]aromatics, and enantiopure ABCD-type macrocycles were obtained through resolution.

Summary: We synthesized a new set of dual emissive heteroleptic cationic cyclometallated iridium complexes using extended pi-conjugated 1-isopentyl-2-phenyl-1H-naphtho [2,3-d] imidazole as C N chelating ligand. The complexes exhibited dual emission behavior at ambient condition, and the origin of emission bands was found to be not only from the lowest energy T1 state but also there was involvement of other higher energy excited triplet states. The DFT study further revealed the characteristics of these excited states responsible for the dual emission.

Summary: The study examines the impact of network structure on the mechanical properties of a polymer network. By utilizing living radical polymerization, a polymer network with a uniform structure can be obtained, leading to dried polymer networks with significantly higher fracture extensibility and energy compared to nonuniform structures obtained through conventional free-radical polymerization.
