Summary: For patients with a BMI greater than 50, One-Anastomosis Gastric Bypass (OAGB) may be more effective than Sleeve Gastrectomy (SG) for treating obesity. A systematic review and meta-analysis of nine retrospective studies involving a total of 2332 participants showed that OAGB achieved significantly higher percentages of excess weight loss and total weight loss compared to SG in patients with a BMI greater than 50. However, there were no significant differences in operative time and length of hospital stay between the two procedures. Additionally, there were no major differences in perioperative outcomes, complications, and diabetes remission between OAGB and SG.

Summary: This study investigated the cumulative incidence of osteoporotic fracture in gastric cancer survivors according to treatment modality. The results showed that total gastrectomy increased the risk of osteoporotic fracture compared to subtotal gastrectomy and endoscopic mucosal dissection and resection. Further research is needed to establish an optimal strategy for each type of surgery.

Summary: This meta-analysis evaluated the efficacy of Da Vinci robotic distal subtotal gastrectomy (RDG) or laparoscopic distal subtotal gastrectomy (LDG) in treating gastric cancer. The results showed that RDG group had lower intraoperative blood loss, higher number of resected lymph nodes, shorter postoperative recovery time, longer length of distal resection margin, and prolonged operation duration compared to the LDG group. There were no significant differences between the two groups in terms of other postoperative outcomes.

Summary: The study aimed to assess the safety and efficacy of subtotal gastrectomy (SG) for remnant gastric cancer (RGC) by integrating data from published articles through a meta-analysis. Results showed that SG had significantly shorter operative time compared to total gastrectomy (TG), with no significant differences in intraoperative blood loss, length of postoperative hospital stay, postoperative complications, or recurrence. Although SG tended to be associated with favorable 5-year overall survival for RGC, the association was not statistically significant.

Summary: The study analyzed the long-term survival of patients with lower third gastric adenocarcinoma after subtotal or total gastrectomy, finding that the number of positive lymph nodes significantly affected patient survival rates. Patients who underwent total gastrectomy had a higher number of total removed lymph nodes, with adjusted hazard ratio suggesting partial superiority of total gastrectomy over subtotal gastrectomy for patients with curative intent. The data support the importance of extended lymph node dissection.

Summary: This meta-analysis aims to compare laparoscopic distal gastrectomy (LDG) and open distal gastrectomy (ODG) in terms of short-term and long-term surgical outcomes, recovery, and oncological results. The results show that LDG leads to less intraoperative blood loss, faster patient recovery, and fewer complications. Moreover, LDG meets the clinical requirements in terms of lymph node yield, adequacy of resection, and survival.

Summary: This study compared the outcomes of DG and TG surgeries for the treatment of MTGC using a meta-analysis approach. The results showed that DG had lower rates of post-operative complications and some cases had higher survival rates compared to TG. Therefore, DG is a safe and viable surgical procedure for patients with MTGC, especially when a negative proximal margin is confirmed.

Summary: This study assessed the learning curve of robotic gastrectomy for gastric cancer and showed that surgical cumulative volume has a substantial impact on surgical outcomes. Improved outcomes were observed as surgeons gained more experience, and an increase in case numbers in RDG facilitated the learning process for RTG.

Summary: This study aimed to compare the safety and overall effect of robotic distal pancreatectomy (RDP) to laparoscopic distal pancreatectomy (LDP), particularly in terms of perioperative outcome and short-term oncological outcome. The results showed that RDP was associated with smaller tumor size, higher spleen preservation rate, and lower rate of conversion to open surgery compared to LDP. No significant differences were found in other outcomes between RDP and LDP.

Summary: This meta-analysis evaluated the safety and efficacy of robotic distal gastrectomy (RDG). The analysis included 22 studies with 5386 patients. The results showed that compared to laparoscopic distal gastrectomy (LDG), RDG had longer operating time, less intraoperative blood loss, more retrieved lymph nodes, shorter time to first flatus, shorter postoperative hospital stay, and lower incidence of pancreatic fistula. However, there were no significant differences in other parameters between RDG and LDG groups. Propensity-score-matched analysis showed that the differences in time to first flatus and postoperative hospital stay between the two groups lost significance.

Summary: This study examines neural activity during provocation and aggressive responses among individuals from different social classes. The findings suggest that low-class individuals display higher neural sensitivity during social provocation and aggressive responses than high-class individuals. The relationship between social class and aggression is moderated by the activity of orbitofrontal cortex (OFC) and anterior cingulate cortex (ACC) during provocation.

Summary: This study investigates the impact of health insurance and resources on the burden of Alzheimer's disease and related dementias (ADRD). The findings suggest that ADRD has an increasing burden on patients globally, both physically and economically. Moreover, health resources are negatively associated with certain burden factors, such as disability-adjusted life years (DALY) and death, but positively associated with years of life lived with disability (YLD).

Summary: This study aims to explore the interrelations between trip stage characteristics, socio-demographic attributes, and the built environment, as well as how rail transit is integrated as part of multimodal trips after it is introduced. Data are extracted from the Chongqing Urban Resident Travel Survey from 2014, three years after the new rail transit network was established. The results show that the separate trip stage characteristics have more impact on people's main mode choice of rail transit compared to general trip characteristics. The machine learning model reveals the non-linear effects and thresholds of impact by trip stage characteristics, suggesting an optimal radius of facility distribution along the transit lines. Synergistic effects between variables are also identified, including by groups of people and land use characteristics.

Summary: This study investigates the relationship between IgE-mediated allergy and complicated appendicitis (CA) as well as the overall prognosis. A retrospective analysis was conducted on a consecutive series of pediatric patients with acute appendicitis who underwent appendectomy at Beijing Children's Hospital. The results showed that children with allergies had a decreased risk of developing CA after adjusting for various factors. There were no significant differences in operative time, length of hospital stay, readmission, or adhesive intestinal obstruction rate between allergy and non-allergy patients.
