Summary: Vegetative propagation and tissue culture are currently the only options for cultivating Miscanthus spp., but a preliminary study on the seeds of hybrids obtained through cross-pollination shows that they can be a valid alternative. The germination of the seeds decreased significantly after storage for 1 year at room temperature or 8 degrees C, indicating dormancy. However, the use of gibberellic acid (GA(3)) solution can improve seed germination.

Summary: JA-mediated seed germination involves crosstalk with other phytohormones, especially ABA and GA, and light interacts with JA in germination mainly via effects on the GA and ABA signaling pathways. Seed plants have evolved mechanisms that maintain the dormancy of mature seeds until the time is appropriate for germination. Seed germination is a critical step in the plant life cycle, and it is an important trait in relation to agricultural production.

Summary: This study reveals the interaction between H2O2 and Ca2+ in seed germination and the mechanism of regulating the balance between ABA and GA(3). H2O2 induces Ca2+ influx, which increases H2O2 accumulation and forms a positive-regulatory loop to promote seed germination under ABA stress.

Summary: Climate change caused by global warming is now affecting agricultural production worldwide. In rice, water limitation due to irregular rainfall in rainfed lowlands during crop growth is a major factor limiting yield. Dry direct-sowing has been suggested as a water-efficient approach to cope with water stress during rice growth, but poor seedling establishment due to drought during germination and emergence remains a problem.

Summary: In this study, it was discovered that the SNF5-type protein BUSHY (BSH) plays a role in the regulation of seed germination via the gibberellin pathway dependent on HUB1 in Arabidopsis thaliana. BSH transcription is induced by the gibberellin inhibitor PAC in the seed, and BSH regulates the expression of GA pathway genes during seed germination. Additionally, BSH acts partially downstream of GA3OX1 and GA3OX2, and its regulation of seed germination in response to PAC is dependent on HUB1.

Summary: This study evaluated the germination characteristics and dormancy of M. bourgaei seeds. The highest germination percentage was achieved after 12 months of moist chilling, while GA(3) application had limited effect on breaking dormancy. Additionally, sulfuric acid scarification did not promote seed germination.

Summary: This study reveals that blue light inhibits the degradation of DELLA proteins induced by GA through the major photoreceptor CRY1, thereby repressing the GA response during hypocotyl elongation and affecting plant photomorphogenesis. The findings provide new insights into the antagonistic interaction between blue light and GA in regulating plant development processes.

Summary: Germinated mung bean seeds soaked at 40 degrees C for 4 hours with a seed to water ratio of 1:4 and germinated for 7 hours accumulated the highest amount of GABA. Acidifying the soaking water to pH 5.5 had a better impact on GABA accumulation. This study provides useful information for producing GABA-enriched and healthy foods from mung beans.
