Summary: Acromegaly is a condition caused by a pituitary adenoma that secretes growth hormone, resulting in various complications. Early diagnosis and appropriate treatment are crucial. Diagnosis is confirmed through biochemical tests and MRI. Pituitary surgery is usually the first-line treatment, while medical therapy and radiation therapy can be used as adjunct options.

Summary: The diagnosis, management, and treatment of acromegaly heavily rely on the levels of serum IGF-1, basal GH, and nadir GH following OGTT. However, these hormone concentrations can be influenced by various factors, leading to discordant levels that may require additional monitoring and data. New standards for GH and IGF-1 provide more accurate tools, but limitations should be considered along with clinical history and imaging studies when evaluating patients with acromegaly.

Summary: Acromegaly, caused by growth hormone-secreting pituitary adenomas, is usually benign but can be locally invasive and progressive. It leads to a wide range of comorbidities and the normalization of growth hormone and insulin-like growth factor 1 is the primary therapeutic goal. A multimodal approach with surgery, medical therapy, and radiation therapy is required for optimal outcomes.

Summary: Diabetic macular ischemia is a common complication of diabetic retinopathy that can result in vision loss. Despite the lack of consensus and information on prognosis, prevalence, and diagnostic criteria, it is crucial to provide sufficient, accessible, and accurate information to support patients, caregivers, and physicians. Developing confirmed diagnostic criteria for DMI would assist patients in accessing validated information and support the development of treatments. Trust and open communication between patients and physicians are important in managing health anxiety and ensuring adherence to beneficial treatments.

Summary: The emergence of narrative medicine has promoted reflective practices and story-telling as means of promoting compassion, building resiliency, and understanding the patient and physician as persons. However, patients' stories are usually told by physicians, producing a second-hand facsimile of the patient's lived experience. This paper explores the ways to better elevate patients' voices in healthcare settings and medical literature.

Summary: Acromegaly is characterized by overproduction of growth hormone and accompanying insulin-like growth factor-1, leading to somatic burden and psychosocial changes. Studies have shown that patients with acromegaly often experience cognitive impairment and neuropsychological issues. This review outlines the impact of disease progression, treatment modalities, and comorbidities on cognitive function and the mechanisms of cognitive impairment in acromegaly patients.

Summary: Nursing students frequently encounter patient death during their studies, but they feel unprepared and believe there is a lack of education in this area; emotions accompanying patient death often include reflection on the fragility of life and compassion; students express a need for increased education and preparation in dealing with patient death.

Summary: National registries are valuable tools to investigate rare conditions like acromegaly, providing insights into epidemiology, clinical presentation, diagnosis, treatment outcomes, and mortality. While single-center studies are more homogeneous, they are often limited by small sample sizes and lack statistical power.

Summary: This paper proposes including the clinico-pathologic phenotype in the therapeutic algorithm for acromegaly, utilizing biomarkers for personalized medicine to accelerate the implementation of precision medicine. Additionally, the development, validation, and clinical use of a pasireotide acute test is suggested to identify patients responsive to pasireotide LAR.

Summary: This study aimed to understand attitudes toward overlapping surgery (OS) of patients who gave informed consent. Contrary to previous research, most participants had a neutral or positive view of OS. Trust in the surgeon and informed consent were identified as important factors in increasing comfort for OS. Patients who misunderstood personnel roles felt less comfortable toward OS, emphasizing the need for patient education.

Summary: Acromegaly is a chronic disorder caused by GH-producing pituitary adenoma. While surgery and medical therapy are standard treatments, some tumors behave aggressively and are resistant to these therapies. In such cases, multimodal therapeutic strategies should be considered.
