Summary: This exploratory study investigated the effect of biosynthesized TiO(2)NPs using seed extract of Cuminum cyminum on seed germination and germination indices of Mung bean (Vigna radiata). The results showed a significant enhancement in germination indices values for Vigna radiata with effective treatment of TiO(2)NPs compared to non-treated seeds.

Summary: The roles of soil and earthworm gut microorganisms in the degradation of the chiral fungicide imazalil (IMA) enantiomers were systematically studied. The degradation of S-IMA was slower than R-IMA in soil without earthworms. However, after the addition of earthworms, S-IMA degraded faster than R-IMA.

Summary: In this study, we report the simultaneous removal and bioconversion of malachite green and hexavalent chromium by a halophilic biofilm-forming bacterium Halomonas xianhensis SUR308. The strain is capable of efficiently detoxifying and degrading these contaminants, even in alkaline and high-salinity environments.

Summary: This study employed delta-MnO2 to activate PDS and introduced biochar (BC) as a carrier and electron-transfer provider in the PBC@delta-MnO2/PDS system. The efficiency of this system in removing Malachite Green (MG) was evaluated through experiments and multiple detection methods, and the underlying mechanism was explored. The results showed that PBC@delta-MnO2/PDS could reduce the toxicity of wastewater containing MG by over 80% through the contribution of 1O2 as the major active species. Furthermore, the detoxification performance of MG led by 1O2 was comparatively elucidated using T.E.S.T software, presenting novel ideas for the application of the PBC@MnO2/PDS system.

Summary: Although research on microplastic pollution has mostly focused on marine ecosystems, studies on the impacts of microplastics on terrestrial ecosystems, particularly on terrestrial plants, are limited. This study investigated the effects of polystyrene microplastics on three herbaceous ornamental plants and found that they significantly inhibited seed germination processes.

Summary: Malachite green (MG) dye is a persistent and non-biodegradable micro-pollutant found in industrial effluent that causes harm to green flora. It has genotoxic, mutagenic, and carcinogenic effects on living beings and infiltrates the food chain. To mitigate its impact on the ecosystem, efficient wastewater treatment technologies are being sought globally. This review focuses on the potential of microorganisms and plants for MG removal and discusses the toxicological effects on aquatic and terrestrial plants.

Summary: This study investigated the influence of titanium dioxide nanoparticles (TiO2 NPs) synthesized from Trachyspermum ammi seed extract on the germination and growth of Vigna radiata seeds. The green synthesized TiO2 NPs significantly improved the germination rate and root-shoot length of the Vigna radiata seedlings.

Summary: Certain substances called germination inhibitors can inhibit the germination of seeds. They can be classified as germination destructors or germination retarders, with the former causing harm to the seed and the latter being closely related to seed dormancy. These inhibitors have important applications in seed preservation and herbicide use.

Summary: Increased fluorine pollution significantly decreases bean crop productivity. The present study investigates the effects of F contamination (KF and NaF) on seed germination and ion mobility, using NaCl as a benchmark. High F levels reduce seed germination and biomass, and negatively affect seedling health, causing toxicity symptoms and inhibiting mineral status, particularly calcium content. Tolerance to F during germination and seedling stages could be used as a criterion for selecting F-tolerant bean varieties.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the effects of environmentally relevant concentrations of microplastics on soil organisms. The results showed that the threat to soil biota from microplastics is minimal at German pollution levels, but in areas with higher concentrations of microplastics, these findings can be seen as an early warning signal for more adverse effects.

Summary: The transition from seed to seedling is a crucial stage in the life cycle of plants, involving tissue hydration, mobilization of nutrients, and activation of metabolic activity in seeds. This process requires extensive reprogramming of genetic, epigenetic, and hormonal switches, leading to the activation of vegetative growth genes and silencing of seed maturation genes.
