Multinational Retrospective Central Pathology Review of Neuroblastoma Lessons Learned to Establish a Regional Pathology Referral Center in Resource-Limited Settings

Teresa Santiago, Ana C. Polanco, Soad Fuentes-Alabi, Caleb Hayes, Elizabeth Orellana, Belkis Gomero, Mazlova Toledo Gonzalez, Eduviges Ruiz, Moises Espino Duran, Carlos Rodriguez-Galindo, Monika Metzger

Summary: This study reviewed the pathology diagnosis of neuroblastoma patients in Central America and the Caribbean, revealing low concordance rates between local diagnoses and central pathology review, highlighting the need for a central pathology review program. Manual MYCN immunohistochemistry showed some accuracy in diagnosing neuroblastoma.

Summary: The St Jude Global Academy Neuro-Oncology Training Seminar (NOTS) is a hybrid course focusing on pediatric CNS tumors for physicians from low-income and middle-income countries. The course curriculum was developed based on a targeted needs assessment evaluating 11 domains of care, with successful participation from teams in 8 countries and significant improvements in knowledge and clinical practice observed.

Bilateral Diffuse Nodular Pulmonary Ossification Mimicking Metastatic Disease in a Patient with Fibrolamellar Hepatocellular Carcinoma

Pattamon Sutthatarn, Cara E. Morin, Jessica Gartrell, Wayne L. Furman, Max R. Langham, Teresa Santiago, Andrew J. Murphy

Summary: Pulmonary ossification is a rare condition characterized by mature bone formation in the lung parenchyma. This report presents a case of a 20-year-old female patient with fibrolamellar hepatocellular carcinoma and bilateral diffuse nodular pulmonary ossification, who underwent neoadjuvant chemotherapy and staged thoracotomies for treatment. Histology showed nodular type pulmonary ossification, highlighting the importance of recognizing this rare disease process.

Indocyanine green-guided nephron-sparing surgery for pediatric renal tumors

Abdelhafeez H. Abdelhafeez, Andrew J. Murphy, Rachel Brennan, Teresa C. Santiago, Zhaohua Lu, Matthew J. Krasin, John J. Bissler, Joseph M. Gleason, Andrew M. Davidoff

Summary: ICG can successfully guide intra-operative localization of renal tumors in children using near infrared light, with a unique inverse pattern of signal where normal kidney shows higher fluorescence than the tumor. Fluorescence-guided distinction between renal tumor and surrounding normal kidney is feasible.

Targeting plasma cells with daratumumab aids in the treatment of post-transplant autoimmune-like hepatitis

Rebecca Epperly, Teresa Santiago, Cara E. Morin, Kurt Patton, Jeff Deyo, John Eshun, Brandon Triplett, Akshay Sharma

Summary: This case report highlights the successful treatment of antibody-mediated autoimmune-like hepatitis post-HCT using daratumumab, suggesting its potential therapeutic value in other plasma cell-mediated disorders. Identification of immune-mediated injury mechanisms can allow for targeted therapy and reduce broad immune suppression.

Leung, Alberto Pappo, Sara M. Federico

Summary: Combining hu14.18K322A with chemotherapy improves early response and outcomes in high-risk neuroblastoma. This treatment is well-tolerated and reduces tumor volume in most patients, leading to improved end-of-induction response rates and encouraging 3-year event-free survival.

Malignant Peripheral Nerve Sheath Tumors-A Comprehensive Review of Pathophysiology, Diagnosis, and Multidisciplinary Management

Samantha W. E. Knight, Tristan E. Knight, Teresa Santiago, Andrew J. Murphy, Abdelhafeez H. Abdelhafeez

Summary: Malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumors (MPNSTs) are aggressive soft tissue sarcomas with nerve sheath differentiation. They have a tendency to metastasize and are relatively common in individuals with neurofibromatosis type 1. The staging of MPNSTs is complex and requires multi-disciplinary collaboration. Surgical management is the primary approach, with non-surgical modalities playing a supportive role. Advances in molecular characterization have allowed the integration of targeted inhibitors into MPNST management.

Andrew M. Fleming, Caitlyn Duffy, Jessica Gartrell, M. Beth McCarville, Max R. Langham, Robert E. Ruiz, Teresa Santiago, Andrew J. Murphy

Summary: Giant focal nodular hyperplasia (GFNH) is rare in children and presents complex considerations for diagnosis and management. Pathognomonic radiographic findings can be absent in this population and the nuances of pathological examination are critical.
