Summary: This paper presents an SOH-integrated electro-optic modulator (EOM) and investigates its structure design, silicon waveguide fabrication, on-chip poling of organic electro-optic material, and modulation response characterization. The experimental results demonstrate that the SOH-integrated EOM has a high bandwidth, low power consumption, and can be used in microwave photonic phase shifter.

Summary: We propose monolithically integrated electro-optical modulators based on thin-film x-cut barium titanate that exhibit large modulation bandwidth and operate at voltages compatible with complementary metal-oxide semiconductor technology. By engineering both the microwave and photonic circuits, we have achieved high electro-optical efficiencies and group-velocity matching simultaneously. Overall, our study highlights the potential of the proposed modulators for low driving voltage and high-performance optical communication systems.

Summary: This paper presents a function-versatile thermo-optic switch using silicon nitride waveguides embedded in polymer cladding. The device consists of an input splitter, single-mode waveguides for phase shifting, and a thermally controlled output coupler. By combining the high waveguide birefringence of silicon nitride and the thermo-optic property of the polymer, this device can achieve multiple functions such as polarization-independent path switching, beam splitting, and polarization beam splitting.

Summary: We propose a novel method for high temperature sensing calibration based on alterable interferential fineness in Bragg hollow core fiber (BHCF). The sensing structure consists of BHCF sandwiched by two sections of different length. The high-fineness fringes formed by ARROW are used for high temperature measurement, while the low-fineness fringes induced by short F-P cavity are exploited for temperature calibration.

Summary: This study presents a detailed numerical analysis and characterization of SiGe/Si heterojunction electro-optic modulator at different wavelengths. The key parameters such as bandgap, refractive index, and carrier injection efficiency are investigated. The results show that the SiGe/Si heterojunction modulator has lower modulated voltage and higher extinction ratio compared to Si modulator. In addition, a punch Mach-Zehnder optical structure is proposed to eliminate the absorption losses of SiO2 in mid-infrared. The modulator exhibits high-speed transmission characteristics with clean eye diagrams up to 40 Gbps.

Summary: This study presents a novel fiber sensor that combines a Fabry-Perot interferometer (FPI) based on high-order harmonic Vernier effect with a fiber Bragg grating (FBG) to achieve simultaneous measurement of gas pressure and temperature. By constructing measurement matrixes, the distinct sensitivities of FBG and FPI to gas pressure and temperature can be utilized for simultaneous extraction of both gas pressure and temperature information.

Summary: We propose and experimentally demonstrate a novel compact folded Michelson interferometer (FMI) modulator with high modulation efficiency and small footprint. This modulator, by folding the phase shift arms and using shorter traveling wave electrode (TWE), reduces the propagation loss of the RF signal and exhibits excellent performance including low V p -L, low optical insertion loss, high extinction ratio, and wide bandwidth.
