Summary: This study examines the associations between different screen-viewing modes and body dissatisfaction, disordered eating, and cosmetic surgery intention among young adults. The results show that handheld viewing is only associated with body dissatisfaction among women while online viewing is associated with greater body dissatisfaction for both men and women. Downloaded viewing is associated with higher odds of overeating behaviors for both men and women. Although total screen time is associated with greater cosmetic surgery intention for both men and women, there are sex differences in the associations with viewing modes.

Summary: The study investigated the relationships between healthy women's estimates of their own body size, their body dissatisfaction, and their subjective judgments of the normal/overweight boundary in other women's bodies. The results showed that increasing body dissatisfaction leads to slimmer judgments of the boundary, while overestimation of one's own body size shifts the boundary towards higher BMIs.

Summary: Although obesity is a known risk factor for cardiovascular disease, the impact of long-term BMI changes in overweight or obese adults on the risk of heart failure, CVD, and mortality has not been quantified. This population-based cohort study found that the majority of overweight or obese adults maintain their weight status over the long term, with individuals who have stable severe obesity experiencing the worst heart failure, CVD, and mortality outcomes.

Summary: Scholars are still debating the impact of social media on body image, but increased use of social media, particularly engaging in appearance-related behaviors, may pose a potential risk for body dissatisfaction in adolescents. Research has shown that adolescents employ various behavioral strategies to process appearance-related content on social media, such as avoiding negative content and selecting positive content. Cognitive processing strategies, like critically evaluating body-related content and psychologically distancing from challenging content, are also used, albeit less frequently. Boys seem to have more positive agency over their bodies and social media use, and tend to use more active coping styles than girls.

Summary: Perfectionism is a multidimensional construct with both positive and negative aspects. Appearance-oriented perfectionism, associated with body image dissatisfaction and weight and shape control behaviors, has been introduced as a new dimension. The Physical Appearance Perfectionism Scale (PAPS) is a reliable instrument to assess this dimension, maintaining its original factor structure. This perfectionism is associated with general perfectionism, higher body dissatisfaction, and symptoms of Eating Disorders and Muscle Dysmorphia.

Summary: This survey explores the status quo of behavioral and body image therapy in obesity management among nutrition experts, as well as their attitudes toward virtual reality (VR) technology. The results indicate that nutrition experts do not currently use VR in nutrition counseling sessions for obesity treatment, but they have a positive attitude toward this technology despite being unfamiliar with it. The findings suggest that VR technology has the potential to support nutrition experts in utilizing elements of body image therapy.
