Summary: Although most abortion care takes place in the office setting, anesthesiologists are often asked to provide anesthesia for the 1% of abortions that take place later, in the second trimester. Changes in federal and state regulations surrounding abortion services may result in an increase in second-trimester abortions due to barriers to accessing care. Therefore, anesthesiologists may be increasingly involved in care for these patients.

Summary: This study found that among adults who co-use THC and nicotine-containing electronic vaping products, a high percentage also reported smoking marijuana and cigarettes. The findings highlight the need for further investigation into the health effects of co-use of tobacco and THC-containing products, and suggest the importance of continued surveillance on polysubstance EVP and multi-modal marijuana and tobacco use trends. Monitoring various modes of marijuana and tobacco use may help inform policies, prevention education, communication, and cessation tools.

Summary: Due to increasing antimicrobial resistance and medical device-related infections, phage therapy has gained renewed interest as an alternative or adjunct to conventional antimicrobials. However, there are significant knowledge gaps in clinical application and laboratory testing of phage therapy, leading to heterogeneity in approach and lack of consensus.

Summary: The basophil activation test (BAT) measures the degree of degranulation of basophils following stimulation with allergen, and it can be used as a more specific diagnostic tool for allergic diseases. Clinical application of BAT requires clinical validation, quality assurance, and efforts are ongoing to establish a platform for laboratories to ensure reproducibility and reliability of results.

Summary: This study found that nearly half of adult respondents continued using THC-EVPs after the EVALI outbreak, with high frequency of use reported. They mainly accessed products through recreational dispensaries, friends/family, and illicit dealers. Age, race, and state legalization of marijuana were associated with frequency of THC-EVP use.

Summary: The study found that trajectories of e-cigarette use during adolescence are influenced by factors such as age, age of onset, frequency, and escalation in use, with younger cohorts exhibiting more problematic trajectories. Primary prevention is crucial, interventions to prevent teen e-cigarette use must start early in middle school and continue throughout adolescence.

Summary: The study examined the spatial measurement of marijuana aerosols in a smoker's residential spaces, comparing smoking marijuana vs. vaping, and exploring the effect of distance on exposure levels. Indoor vaping had higher average exposures but decreased more rapidly with distance compared to indoor smoking. Outdoor smoking and vaping significantly reduced exposure levels compared to indoor settings.

Summary: Research shows that increasing the frequency of cannabis use is associated with lower likelihood of successful smoking cessation and a decreased chance of having quit for at least 6 months among cigarette smokers. This suggests a negative impact of cannabis on smoking cessation outcomes.
