Summary: In this study, the antioxidant properties of white and yellow chamomile were examined in detail with different extraction methods and solvent types. Sonication-assisted stirring and water were determined to be the best extraction method and solvent for both chamomiles. According to the results, it can be stated that chamomile has higher antioxidant properties than white chamomile under the best extraction conditions.

Summary: A handheld point-of-care test (POCT) was developed to measure blood coagulation time using low-cost printed sensors, providing a rapid and accurate way to test coagulation time anywhere. The system exhibited good stability and reliability, with consistent measurements for both chicken and human blood under different conditions.

Summary: This study evaluated the elemental composition and contribution to the daily intake of essential elements in 25 commonly used herbal tea plants. The concentrations of different elements varied among plant families and organs, and no harmful elements were found. Some plant samples were found to be rich in potassium, calcium, zinc, and other essential elements.

Summary: Pesticide residues in tea and herbal tea often exceed EU maximum residue limits. This study identified infusion parameters influencing the transfer behavior of 61 pesticides and developed a predictive model for pesticides with unknown transfer factors. Tea type and the presence of flavors were the criteria that most influenced pesticide transfer. Beta regression models showed good predictions for most pesticides, with log (P) being the main parameter for estimating pesticide transfer. The transfer factors database and validated models are valuable tools for improving risk assessment.

Summary: This narrative review highlights the importance of the processes of blood coagulation and fibrinolysis in maintaining the integrity of the circulatory system and fluidity of its contents, and sheds light on the underappreciated impact of metals on these processes. Through in vitro and in vivo investigations, the authors identify twenty-five metals that can modulate platelet activity, plasmatic coagulation, and fibrinolysis, and provide detailed insights into the molecular interactions between these metals and key cells and proteins of the hemostatic system. The review aims to serve as a comprehensive evaluation of the current understanding of metal interactions with the hemostatic system, and as a guide for future research.

Summary: A plasma assay has been developed that directly monitors prothrombin activation without the need for fluorogenic substrates. The availability of factor V in plasma strongly influences the rate of prothrombin activation, while deficiencies in FVIII and FIX significantly slow down the cleavage of prothrombin. The assay is sensitive enough to assess how deficiencies in coagulation factors affect thrombin formation.

Summary: Quantum dots (QDs) have gained attention for their biomedical and electronic applications, with their interaction with coagulation-related proteins possibly disrupting the balance of coagulation and fibrinolysis. The binding of QDs to proteins like PTM, PLG, and FIB can alter their conformation and interfere with hemostasis processes, indicating the importance of understanding these interactions for evaluating the biological effects of QDs.

Summary: This study compared the chemical composition of traditional kombucha with those produced from alternative substrates, revealing specific compounds present in herbal substrates like mint, honeysuckle, and chrysanthemum kombuchas that are not found in tea-based kombuchas, leading to distinct flavors and aromas. Mint and green tea kombucha were rated highest and lowest in overall sensory acceptance, respectively, showcasing the potential of herbal substrates to provide unique and appealing kombucha options to consumers.
