A new genus and species, Arthromoniliphora araucariae, is described and illustrated. This fungus is distinguished by differentiated hyaline conidiophores that are branched above the globose base and robustly cylindrical below, moniliform and subulate toward the apex. The conidia are thallic-arthric, cylindrical, bacilliform to cuneate, and hyaline and occur in unbranched chains formed by disarticulation of the moniliform, subulate conidiophore branches.

Blastophragmia plurisetulosa gen. & sp. nov. from China

Jian Ma, Li-Guo Ma, Ru-Qiang Cui, Wei-Gang Kuang, Xiu-Guo Zhang, Rafael F. Castaneda-Ruiz

Summary: A new asexual ascomycete genus and species, Blastophragmia plurisetulosa, is described and illustrated from a specimen collected on dead branches of unidentified plants in Hainan Province, China. The fungus is distinguished by its macronematous, unbranched, determinate or percurrently extending conidiophores, and solitary, acrogenous, fusiform to ellipsoidal, 3-euseptate, smooth, brown conidia with a single apical setula and 2-4 basal setulae, seceding rhexolytically from monoblastic, integrated, terminal conidiogenous cells.

Diversity of saprotrophic filamentous fungi on Araucaria angustifolia (Bertol.) Kuntze (Brazilian pine)

Silvana Santos da Silva, Loise Araujo Costa, Luis Fernando Pascholati Gusmao

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the diversity of saprotrophic filamentous fungi associated with decaying Araucaria angustifolia substrates in Brazil. A total of 135 species were identified, including one new genus and five new species. The study found that twigs had a greater richness of fungi compared to needles, and FLONA-SFP showed higher richness and diversity of fungal species compared to PARNA-SJ. The composition of fungal communities was influenced by both substrate factors and study areas.

Parathozetella microsperma gen. & sp. nov. from the Brazilian Amazon

Flavia Rodrigues Barbosa, Patricia Oliveira Fiuza, Josiane Santana Monteiro, Alexandre Pereira da Silva, Luis Fernando Pascholati Gusmao, Rafael Felipe Castaneda-Ruiz

Summary: A new genus and species of asexual ascomycete, Parathozetella microsperma, has been described and illustrated from decaying plant material collected from rainforest areas in Mato Grosso and Para States. The new genus resembles Thozetella in several features, such as sporodochial conidiomata, presence of microawns, and enteroblastic monophialidic conidiogenesis that produces lunate conidia, but can be easily distinguished by the absence of setulae.

Summary: Asexually reproducing fungi play significant roles in ecosystems and have implications for plant and animal health, food production, biotechnology, and medicine. However, the diversity and extent of asexually reproducing taxa are not well-known. Recent reports suggest that there may be more asexual fungi than sexually-reproducing ones. Evaluating the diversity of different types of fungi, such as speciose and pleomorphic taxa, as well as those from less studied life modes and biodiversity-rich areas, is necessary to obtain more reliable estimates.
