Summary: In a survey of xylarialean fungi in northern Iran, new species N. hyrcana was discovered, and the presence of N. diffusa and N. serpens in Iran was confirmed for the first time. Furthermore, a study of multi-gene sequences revealed misidentification of N. serpens accessions and the close relationship between Euepixylon species and N. serpens.

Summary: The Tibetan Plateau endemic freshwater snail genus Tibetoradix consists of at least 6 species, with 4 described as new to science. There is not a prominent morphological differentiation among the species, and some can be considered morphologically cryptic. The passive dispersal abilities of the snails are relatively good, and the allopatric distribution of the species may result from competitive exclusion.

Summary: A new species of freshwater alga, Chara zhengzhouensis, discovered in a lake in Zhengzhou, Henan Province, China, is described and illustrated in this study. Based on both morphological observation and molecular evidence, it was confirmed that C. zhengzhouensis is distinct from other species of the genus Chara. The description of this new species provides additional molecular data for the phylogenetic analysis of the Chara genus.

Summary: This research investigates the phylogenetic relationships within Pleurotheciales and reveals significant diversity within the group. The study identifies five novel taxa, including two new genera and three new species. Additionally, the study raises intriguing taxonomic questions by examining the relationships between Coleodictyospora and Pseudocoleodictyospora.

Summary: A survey of freshwater fungi in Guizhou Province, China, identified six new species belonging to Fuscosporellaceae and Savoryellaceae. The new taxa were characterized based on morphology, phylogenetic analysis, and culture characteristics. Detailed descriptions and illustrations were provided for each new species, and the first report of Fuscosporella species in China was made.

Summary: The family Syngnathidae is intriguing, with most species found in marine coastal waters, but about 30 species inhabit rivers on Indo-Pacific tropical islands. Freshwater pipefish within the family have been under-studied, and the taxonomy of Nerophinae is still uncertain. This study demonstrates the importance of integrative taxonomy in redefining higher taxa, using a combination of molecular, morphological, and ecological data.

Summary: This study investigated the excretion of fluoroquinolone-resistant E. coli by dogs in rural and urban environments and found that rural dogs tend to excrete bacteria types commonly found in cattle, while urban dogs carry plasmid-mediated quinolone resistance genes similar to those found in human E. coli. Feeding dogs uncooked meat was identified as a potential transmission link for fluoroquinolone-resistant E. coli, emphasizing the importance of enhanced hygiene practices for handling and housing such dogs.

Summary: The paper introduces PhyloAcc-GT, a method that extends PhyloAcc by modeling gene tree heterogeneity, to effectively identify lineage-specific accelerations in substitution rate while accounting for incomplete lineage sorting. The method outperforms other methods in detecting complex patterns of rate shifts and is robust to population size parameter specification.

Summary: During surveys of fungi in Sichuan province, China, a new aquicolous taxon, Xylochrysis aquatica, is described. It differs from the type species X. lucida in various morphological characteristics. Phylogenetic analysis shows that X. aquatica clusters with X. lucida but forms a distinct lineage. A detailed description and illustration of the new species are provided, along with a nucleotide comparison of related species.

Summary: This study investigates the phylogeny of the tribe Lyttini in the beetle family Meloidae and tests for its monophyly. The study uses a comprehensive molecular dataset and finds 11 phylogenetically distinct lineages within Lyttini. The boundaries of this tribe prove to be hard to define. Based on the results, the tribe is restricted to specific genera and new nomenclatural acts are proposed.

Summary: This study on Menisporopsis, Multiguttulispora, and Tainosphaeria, saprobes inhabiting decaying plant material, utilized an integrated morpho-molecular characterization to assess their generic concepts and explore phylogenetic relationships. It revealed Menisporopsis as polyphyletic and proposed a new segregate genus, Arcuatospora. The Tainosphaeria complex was resolved into three genera, with Tainosphaeria s. str. accepted with five species and others transferred to new genera. Additionally, a new genus Flectospora was erected for a previously unrecognized fungus nested in the Tainosphaeria clade, based on molecular evidence.
