Summary: This study used terrestrial laser scanning to measure brick-concrete buildings susceptible to damage from mining activities. The wall length was used as a deformation monitoring index. The study extracted point cloud data of individual walls and estimated their boundary points. Top boundary lines were fitted based on these points, and regions of interest were constructed for calculating the wall length. The proposed method accurately estimated deformations with a millimeter-level accuracy and absolute errors ranging from -6 to 6 mm.

Summary: This paper proposes a method for rapid and quantitative estimation of geological strength index (GSI) using 3D point clouds generated through non-contact measurement methods. The method includes acquiring point clouds using a terrestrial laser scanner, identifying discontinuities through artificial neural networks (ANN) and density-based spatial clustering of applications with noise (DBSCAN), extracting geometric information for the detected discontinuities, and estimating GSI according to the detection and characterization of discontinuities. The application results show that 3D point clouds can provide an objective and efficient way to obtain GSI values of rock mass and can be used as a potential alternative to the traditional GSI estimation method.

Summary: This study introduces a novel multi-level storey separation technique and a novel door and window detection strategy for automated creation of 2D floor plans and 3D building models from complete terrestrial laser scans of heritage buildings. The methods were demonstrated on three heritage sites, achieving overall accuracies of 94.74% for multi-level storey separation and 92.75% for the building model creation. Additionally, the automated door and window detection methodology achieved an absolute mean dimensional error of 6.3 cm.

Summary: The extraction of landslide deformation using terrestrial laser scanning has many important applications. This study proposes a method to extract landslide deformations from TLS data by eliminating edge drift and using weighted least squares regularization solution. Experimental results show that the proposed method outperforms existing methods in landslide deformation extraction.

Summary: Detection of geomorphological changes using SfM photogrammetry requires high-quality 3D reconstruction and precise point estimates. This study compared the 3D point clouds and detectable change patterns obtained from different sensors and data collection methods over multiple years. The results showed that the detectable changes of the sinkhole walls were generally similar between aerial and terrestrial surveys.

Summary: Lianas are increasingly dominating tropical forests due to climate change. Remote sensing techniques play a key role in separating lianas from their host trees, and this separation provides valuable insights into how tropical forests respond to climate and environmental change. In this study, a new machine learning method based on Random Forest and eXtreme Gradient Boosting algorithms is proposed to separate lianas and trees using Terrestrial Laser Scanning point clouds. The method is tested on tropical dry forest trees with different levels of liana infestation, and the results show high accuracy and recall rates. This method provides a flexible approach to extract lianas from 3D point clouds and facilitates new studies on the impact of lianas on tree and forest structures.

Summary: This study investigates the fuel distribution in mountain pine beetle-impacted forests using terrestrial laser scanning technology. The point clouds obtained from TLS are classified into different categories using a deep learning classifier, and a quantitative structural model is used to extract volume attributes of trees and branches. The results are partially validated through field measurements, and it is found that ladder trees increase the vertical overlap between tree branches and below-canopy branches.

Summary: Digital twins have great potential for bridge operation and maintenance, with geometric digital twins being the key component. However, the point-cloud collection for large bridges is challenging, leading to the problem of processing absence point clouds and generating accurate geometric digital twins.

Summary: Establishing a consistent normal orientation for point clouds is challenging due to the complex surface structure. In this research, a novel approach is introduced to separate the problem into local and global phases, using neural networks and dipole propagation to achieve globally consistent normals. This method is stable and robust to various surface features and noise.

Summary: We developed a tool for 3D georeferencing accuracy assessment of tri-stereo primary images of Pleiades 1A/1B/Neo, SPOT 6/7, and Gokturk-1, considering their private sensor-dependent orientation model in the MATLAB environment. The tool includes a two-step adjustment process to estimate the accuracy and analyze the efficiency and validation of exterior orientation parameters and correlation among interior and exterior orientation parameters.

Summary: The panchromatic stereo images of SPOT 6 were evaluated for their three-dimensional georeferencing accuracy using a sensor-dependent orientation model. Ground control points and independent check points were used to establish two point sets, and the accuracy was estimated to be around +/- 1 cm and +/- 1.50 m at the respective points.
