Summary: In this study, the use of chitosan as an adhesion factor for neuronal growth and differentiation was investigated. The results showed that chitosan promoted neuritic processes formation and neuronal polarity, suggesting its potential as an alternative to standard adhesion factors. Additionally, chitosan can be used in both 2D and 3D cultures, bridging the gap between different in vitro models.

Summary: FMRP is a multifunctional protein encoded by the FMR1 gene, and its deficiency is associated with fragile X syndrome. We discovered that FMRP controls neuronal development by enhancing the translation of 4EBP2, a key downstream regulator. This finding contributes to our understanding of the pathology of fragile X syndrome.

Summary: Defective neuritogenesis is a contributing mechanism in neurodevelopmental disorders, particularly in ADNP syndrome. Adnp is localized to the cytoplasm by binding with 14-3-3 proteins, and its knockdown inhibits neurite formation. Adnp deficiency leads to morphological and functional abnormalities in the cortex, including increased dendrite number and axon length.

Summary: The study found that fipronil and its main metabolic product, fipronil sulfone, exhibit specific developmental neurotoxicity on developing human model neurons in vitro. Both compounds significantly inhibited cell migration and neuronal differentiation, but had minimal effect on neurite outgrowth. Fipronil sulfone showed a stronger effect than fipronil, emphasizing the importance of testing both the original pesticides and their metabolic products.

Summary: The study demonstrates that prostate cancer cells promote migration and adhesion to nerve cells through Snail expression, as well as neurite outgrowth via secretion of soluble factors. Targeting cancer cell interaction with nerves may be a potential strategy to halt prostate cancer progression/metastasis.

Summary: The development of electroactive cell-laden hydrogels has attracted attention in neural tissue engineering research. These hydrogels have inherent electrical properties that can regulate cell behavior and promote cell growth and proliferation when combined with electrically conducting materials. Different electrical stimulation protocols have been found to impact neuronal cells' survival and proliferation, providing new options for electroactive hydrogels and electrical stimulation in neural tissue engineering research.

Summary: This study reveals the involvement of ACP5 in the initiation and progression of pulmonary fibrosis. Acp5 deficiency protects mice from lung injury and fibrosis, and the upregulation of Acp5 by TGF-beta 1 enhances β-catenin signaling, promoting fibroblast differentiation, proliferation, and migration. Furthermore, treatment with Acp5 siRNA or inhibitor can reverse established lung fibrosis.

Summary: The splicing regulator NSrp70 was identified as a suppressor of breast cancer metastasis. It inhibits the skipped exon alternative splicing of NUMB, promotes the degradation of transforming growth factor receptor 1 through the lysosome pathway, and regulates TGFβ/SMAD-mediated epithelial-mesenchymal transition in breast cancer cells.

Summary: The L1 cell adhesion molecule is involved in neural development and repair by stimulating beneficial cellular functions and improving conditions in neurotrauma and the L1 syndrome. L1 agonistic mimetics trigger L1-dependent cellular signaling and promote neurite outgrowth and neuronal migration.
