Summary: The geochemical characterisation of the NWA 2975 Martian meteorite was completed using Raman spectroscopy supported by micro energy dispersive X-ray fluorescence (mu-EDXRF) and laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS), which enabled an accurate interpretation of molecular and elemental results. Various major minerals, including pyroxenes and plagioclases, were detected and different metal compositions for these minerals were defined based on secondary Raman spectroscopy bands. Additionally, the presence of coesite, a high-pressure polymorph of silica, was identified in this meteorite for the first time.

Summary: The variations of Ni and Co in primary martian magmas exhibit abnormal incompatible behavior. Sulfur may have a small effect on Co partitioning, but not enough to change it from compatible to incompatible. Nearly 8000 ppm of sulfur would be required in the melt at liquidus temperature for Co partitioning to become incompatible in a martian mantle source region.

Summary: This study investigates the magmatic volatiles in the Eastern Manus Basin by analyzing apatites in dacite, providing insights into the compositions of pre-eruption volatiles and their implications for magmatic oxygen fugacity and petrogenesis. The experimental data suggest that the apatites crystallized from volatile-undersaturated melts, with indications of the addition of slab-derived fluids and F-rich sediments in the mantle source region of the basin. The study also estimates a significant proportion of Cl concentrations in the melts being added directly from subduction-released fluids.

Summary: This article reports the geochemical characteristics of two depleted olivine-phyric shergottite meteorites and suggests that they may originate from a volcanic center. The study finds that the earliest formed olivine megacryst cores in these meteorites are among the most Mg-rich recorded and are in equilibrium with their respective rock compositions. The findings also indicate that the crystallization process of these meteorites was not affected by crustal contamination.

Summary: By analyzing the in situ major and trace elements and Nd isotope content of apatite from four granitic plutons, this study provides new insights into identifying the magmatic features of Cu-mineralized plutons. The results show that the dCe values of apatite are more valid indicators of the magma oxidation state. Additionally, the Sr/Y and dEu values of apatite can reveal the geochemical signature of Cu-mineralized plutons. An index system based on apatite dCe, Sr/Y, and F/Cl values is established to distinguish between Cu-mineralized and non-mineralized plutons.

Summary: The study revealed the formation conditions of synnyrites in the Synnyr alkaline pluton, indicating that all plutonic rocks were formed from the same parental alkali-basaltic magma through long-term crystallization differentiation and fractionation. The final stages of transformation led to the formation of kalsilite-nepheline-K-feldspar synnyrites.

Summary: Optogenetics is a revolutionary method for studying neural activity by exploiting the optical stimulation of neurons. This study investigates the effect of gold surfaces on the photocycle of the optogenetic protein ChR2, finding that ChR2 proteins maintain their function in a 14-nm-wide gap between two gold surfaces. These results are relevant for optogenetic applications requiring physical contact between nanoscale metallic probes and neuronal cell membranes, paving the way for spectroscopic studies of transmembrane proteins at the nanoscale.

Summary: The mechanical and chemical properties of plant cell walls depend on the supramolecular assembly of cellulose fibrils. Diffraction limited infrared micro-spectroscopic mapping experiments were conducted to study the local orientation of cellulose in secondary plant cell walls. Results showed significant anisotropy of cellulose macromolecules and other biopolymers in different regions of the cross section. This study demonstrates the use of diffraction limited IR micro-spectroscopy in studying hierarchically structured materials with complex anisotropic behavior.
