The results showed that most patients complied with the recommendations and were satisfied with the service. However, lower compliance and satisfaction were found in GP practices, but nonetheless, two of three patients with respective recommendations were willing to use this setting.

Summary: This study systematically searched and appraised existing research on aided augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) interventions for children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), and found that these interventions are effective in teaching various communication functions. The study identified a wide range of intervention components and targeted behaviors, but found that structured and context-bound routines, with the use of time delay and prompting strategies, were most successful in teaching communication skills.

Summary: Executive functions play a crucial role in reasoning, planning, and self-regulatory skills, and their importance for educational success is supported by evidence. Computerized activities have been shown to improve executive functions, although most studies have been conducted in controlled laboratory settings. The present study examined the effectiveness of a short training program aimed at stimulating executive functions in kindergarten classrooms of different socioeconomic backgrounds. The findings showed improvements in working memory span and performance in a fluid intelligence task for all children in the training group, but gains in inhibitory control and cognitive flexibility were observed only in children from low socioeconomic schools. No evidence of improved performance in a planning task or classroom behaviors associated with executive functions was found.

Summary: Through a tuberculosis contact-tracing intervention, we evaluated and provided the WHO-recommended package of care to high-risk HIV-positive individuals in rural Mozambique. A package of interventions was provided in a single visit, including testing and treatment, as well as accelerated ART initiation. The results showed a prevalence of 29% for AHD among participants, and the intervention was found to be feasible and safe in this population.
