Summary: Host-guest complexation between decamethoxypillar[5]arene and difunctionalized pillar[4]arene[1]quinone with isatin was demonstrated by H-1 NMR titration experiments. The antibacterial activity of isatin, decamethoxypillar[5]arene, difunctionalized pillar[4]arene[1]quinone, and their isatin inclusion complexes against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria was assessed using the well-diffusion method. The results showed that decamethoxypillar[5]arene exhibited superior antibacterial activity compared to difunctionalized pillar[4]arene[1]quinone, and the isatin inclusion complex of decamethoxypillar[5]arene displayed excellent antibacterial activity similar to chloramphenicol against various bacteria.

Summary: In this study, a self-healing gel was successfully synthesized by utilizing copolymers with pillar[5]arenes as pendant groups and homoditopic guest bearing triazole-containing cyanoalkane groups. The gel showed rapid and complete self-healing within 90s, responsiveness to temperature and competitive molecules, as well as favorable mechanical properties. The strong host-guest interaction between pillar[5]arene and the guest was identified to be responsible for the excellent properties of the gel. Additionally, the presence of azobenzene motifs in the guest may contribute to the improved hardness and moldability of the gel. Such rapid and efficient healing is considered unprecedented in current literature.

Summary: In this study, bicyclic compounds based on four-pillar[5]arene, known as molecular universal joints (MUJs), were synthesized. The chiroptical inversion behaviors of these compounds triggered by temperature, solvent, and guest complexation were investigated. Chiroptical inversion could be achieved in the presence of adiponitrile in certain solvents, while stronger self-included interactions between the cavity and inside ring of certain MUJs inhibited the switching.

Summary: The solid-state behavior of five ionophore-encapsulated TCNQ complexes has been investigated. Different arrangements of TCNQ columns and crown ether complexes were observed, resulting in one-dimensional structures with varying conductivities. The presence of partially charged TCNQ units was confirmed in all five complexes, and the resistivity of the TCNQ complexes was found to be higher than that of simple KTCNQ salts.

Summary: Integrating fluorescent chromophores into aromatic frameworks can prevent aggregation-induced quenching and impart new fluorescence properties. In this study, s-tetrazine-bridged aromatic frameworks (TzAF) were fabricated by incorporating the smallest aromatic fluorophore, s-tetrazine (Tz), into the lattice of aromatic frameworks. The TzAF thin films exhibited reversible photoswitching fluorescence characteristics with excellent stability and high on/off contrast due to light-induced reversible transformation between TzAF's neutral and radical states.

Summary: This report describes a hydroxypillar[5]arene-extended porous polymer-confined silver catalyst (PAF-PA5-Ag-0.8) for electrochemical CO2 reduction reaction (CO2RR) that selectively produces ethanol with a maximum Faradaic efficiency of 55% at 11 mA cm(-1). The study reveals that the hydroxypillar[5]arene-confined Ag clusters are the active sites for ethanol formation. Moreover, temperature-programmed desorption measurements demonstrate an enhanced adsorption strength of CO* on PAF-PA5-Ag-0.8, favoring the C-C coupling to form ethanol.

Summary: This report describes the development of two triazine- and dithienothiophene-based conjugated microporous polymer (CMP) photocatalysts, TzDTT and TzDTDO. It was found that TzDTT possesses stronger electron donor-acceptor ability but a lower photocatalytic hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) rate compared to TzDTDO. The sulfone groups in TzDTDO were found to play a key role in its superior photocatalytic activity.
